The vigilante followed Costigan, recognizing the area and smiling slightly as he did. It was pretty perfect for what he was assuming would go down - out of the way, with enough room to maneuver, definitely with a potential exit or two one or both of them could take - and already he was noting structures and objects to look out for and that could be useful in the fight.

"Sounds good." Dick did like having some room to move, since in general, he spent comparatively way more time in the air than most people did in a fight. He was, after all, an acrobat first, martial artist second.

Their tail followed dutifully, a little more purposefully, as though they sensed what the two former cops had in mind and were preparing for it just as they were, and Dick immediately started formulating contingency plans that hopefully would at least account for the thug's weapons, assuming they had some sort of Star Wars/Trek style guns on hand. He probably should have brought his gear into port with him.

"So, wait for them to come to us, disarm 'em, get them to tell us who's so ticked off we're asking questions about David?" He was suggesting and asking an opinion, as he would of a partner and comrade, rather than ordering or instructing. If they were planning on just killing them, they probably would have done it by now, so waiting for them to get closer, reveal their weapons and then make their move seemed like the better option.

Sorry dude. Action is hard for me when braindead. :C lost_undercover June 23 2011, 08:18:02 UTC
Costigan's mind was already selecting what mundane objects he could turn into weapons. He spent most of his fighting on the ground and with little in the way of obstacles unless he intentionally needed a temporary diversion. The former undercover had never seen Dick fight, but he knew enough about the kid to know he would have some training. His warden had survived as a vigilante, was taught various martial arts, and was an acrobat before his parents were killed. If he couldn't fight, then Costigan was going to be pissed.

Exits tallied, weapons inventoried, and preparations made, the former undercover was ready for the fight. They were nearing their destination and the actual combat, so his reply to the warden's question came quickly. "We can't disarm and pin down all three. You take out one, I'll take out one, and then we question the third."

Before Dick could interject, Costigan added, "I know-- no killing. Unconscious. But if we have to draw blood to get some answers, I need to know that that's okay."

No worries at all, I'm in the same boat xD batmanschmatman June 24 2011, 05:33:03 UTC
Dick might have considered arguing otherwise - since three armed opponents was a cakewalk compared to some of the fights he'd been in before - but it was a solid enough plan anyway, so he nodded and addressed Costigan's not-question.

"If it comes down to that-" Which it probably would. "I can just dangle him off a building and use the Batvoice on him." Which, although he said it lightly and therefore how much he was being serious about it could be sort of in question for someone not familiar with how the Gotham crowd got stuff done, was a perfectly realistic concern for whichever one of the three men was lucky enough to be conscious at the end of the fight. "These guys might be scum, but we don't want to do more damage then we have to, and if you can make it seem like you're going to actually let go, you'll be surprised how chatty people can be."

He was a little more serious now. Being a vigilante in Gotham was a lot more about psychology than actual physical harm, and you could get a lot done with fear without actual violence.
