Rex was going to be damned if he was going to let a stupid "curse" beat him. No. With as vain and obsessed with surpassing all odds as he was, he was going to beat this by embracing it. If he was going to be stuck as a woman, he'd be the best damn woman on the Barge-- better than the others! And besides, perhaps womanhood had its perks. It would be interesting to see how differently people treated him based on his demeanor and appearance.
