There was something missing. It felt wrong, like being cut open and hollowed out, much like a Halloween pumpkin. An overwhelming sensation of need and loss battling each other for dominance. Panic in its purest, bewildering form. There was something missing. Something or someone important, vital. Buffy felt like whatever it was, it was the most important thing in her entire life. How was she supposed to function without knowing what it was?
Would it ever come back?
All she knew as she stumbled to Spike's door and practically threw herself at it, was the pounding of her heart and the rush of grief and loss. The warm tears in her eyes went completely unnoticed. She was violated and she couldn't even tell how. The Slayer was battling her mind, trying to fight whatever the loss was. To try to find some sliver of something - what was it that she was trying to tell Dick about? - anything to hold onto. To not let it be taken. Not let it fade away. But it was a battle she could not fight with her will, or her fists, and she felt devastatingly helpless.
Buffy didn't want to be examined, or asked questions. She wanted the only person who could help her make sense of it. It was her hope that he knew what it was.
"Spike." She murmured as she started frantically rapping on the door with an open palm. When the response wasn't instant, she practically screamed: "Spike!!"
