Jim doesn't really like breakfast. He tends to spend it with just a piece of fruit or dry toast up on deck. He decided to wear the suit this morning, as dressing as "Jim from IT" really annoys him sometimes.

The suit was what caught Bruce's attention first. He had stumbled onto the deck in the morning for coffee. Just coffee. It wasn't as good as Alfred's, but it was as strong, and it woke him up when he actually bothered to sleep, and kept him awake when he didn't.

When he saw Jim wearing that suit, his lips twitched upwards slightly. Eyes flickered over the array of items before he took a plate and placed a single piece of toast on it. Then, he slid it over to Jim.

Just a guess, really.

"Quite overdressed." He was himself in a polo shirt and slacks, the scars on his arms - some from burns, a few slashes - showing. There was also a stark white ring at the base of the little finger of his left hand.

Jim shook his head. "I like it." He straightened the jacket and turned to lean back against the railing and meet his warden's face. He, of course, noticed all those fine little details that most might have skipped over, but the process took only a moment before it was finished and he gave Bruce a winning smile.

"Just because most like to spend their time looking a mess doesn't mean I should be forced to the sane fate." Then a pause. "Why are you here?"

There was also a barely-healed wound at his temple, uncovered by a bandage. He knew that Jim was looking over him, analyzing him- but if his inmate didn't figure out what he was a man used to constant combat during their first meeting, when he gave himself away, he was giving his intelligence far too much credit.

"Having coffee," he said, raising his cup slightly as proof. "And offering you breakfast."

He eyed it with disgust and turned his eyes away in a not so subtle gesture of dismissal. "No...thank you," he said slowly, looking quite annoyed by the whole situation. He was already displeased with his warden, but had had things to do. Things that didn't involve casually chatting with his warden.

He paused.

"How are you with games?" He smirked. "And I don't mean chess."

Games? Well, Jim might have revealed himself more than he wanted to know, and for a moment, there was a flash of sharp intelligence in Bruce's eyes that he quickly hid. Instead, he only cocked his head to the side slightly, watching Jim carefully, looking as if he was considering his answer.

"Of course." And he did not say: I spend almost all of my time solving riddles of some sort.

"I always did love puzzles."

These questions were, of course, a game as well, and Jim was just wanting to have a little fun with them. If his warden insisted on being dull, then Jim was going to make him interesting.

"Hm. As do I. So why don't we play a game? It might liven this place up." He grinned. "I promise not to kill anyone," he said with the tone of an exasperated teenager.

If he said that he didn't see this coming would be lying. But his calculations were wrong - this was far earlier than he had predicted, especially after what had happened yesterday. Bruce was starting to see why Dick and Tim had told him that the Barge was never dull.

He didn't show any of that in his expression. Instead, he leaned back, raising his hands and steepling his fingers against his chest.

"Is that what you were working on yesterday?" he asked mildly, considering Jim for another. "This will interfere with rule two, so try to make sure it doesn't." He shrugged.

"In fact, make parts of your report to be a clue. It'll make it even less boring."

"I wasn't working on anything yesterday," he commented idly, but he was glad that his warden had seen through the lie. It meant he at least paid attention. But that's what he needed. Give Bruce a game so that he didn't see what Jim was planning for Sherlock. He needed this as pure distraction. It made things so much easier.

And gave him some piece of mind.

"But it won't interfere with your precious rules."

Perhaps that was what he thought. But Bruce was very proficient at multitasking, and dealing with Jim's games while watching him was something that he could do. Whether or not he succeeded remained to be seen, but this- he could do. His lips quirked upwards.

"Try not to make it too easy for me." And he was turning away, this time he being the one to dismiss Jim.

"I'll have your report tonight. Don't keep me waiting."
