[Dinnertime. It catches his attention that Paddy hasn't shown up for his shift...again.]

[OOC: Can we say this happens the day after much of the rest of this log, so Snape's already spoken to Martha about this? Also, I'll be starting a spam for Tosh and EMH soon if that's cool.]

[Merlin doesn't often eat alone, usually sitting with someone he knows or being friendly to someone he doesn't, and today he's going to go for the third path of 'pester someone who likes their alone time'. He brings his tray over to Snape's table and beams at him.]

'Evening. Can I sit here?

[OOC: Absolutely on both!]

[Merlin's third path would be much more cleanly executed if he wasn't the one person on the ship Snape fully respected (obvious parties excluded). It was Merlin, after all.

Not that you'd be able to tell by looking at him. He eyed the other wizard dourly for a moment, then motioned invitingly to the seat.]

[Merlin decided to ignore the dour look and just sat down opposite him, relaxing. He had been working on healing potions all day - his chat with Martha had left him inspired to improve - and he smells....not bad, but definitely more herbal and maybe a bit more burnt than usual.]

Thanks. How're you?

[Oh, good. He wants to talk. Snape idly pushes his food about on his plate.]

Well enough.

[He wonders whether he ought to comment on the burning smell, but decides against it. Merlin probably knows what he's doing.]

I hear you've offered aid to the infirmary.

Oh - yeah, I have. I'm still working on healing spells, but I've gotten pretty good at potions since the last time I was here. I just thought there's no reason not to help, especially when the people in the Infirmary are so overworked.

The infirmary would benefit from a complete, fully-educated medical team.

[Or Healers. Healers would be brilliant.]

It's altruistic of you.

[Merlin felt somewhat like he was having his small contribution derided, but he just reminded himself that Snape was a man of few social skills and pressed on.]

Doctor - Martha said you were doing the same sort of thing.

[He was silent for a moment. He had, very recently, announced his complete refusal to aid the Muggles aboard with magic. Several weeks later, he'd capitulated and resumed aiding the infirmary without explanation to the population at large.

There was absolutely nothing altruistic about it, on his end - or so he would have liked to think.]

Dr. Jones is correct. Why?

Just saying. [He takes a bite of his food. Merlin doesn't know why people complain about the catering; he wasn't subsisting on gruel in Camelot or anything, but he's never ever felt the need to criticise.] It's altruistic of you too.

I have my reasons.

[Accepting compliments is definitely not his strong suit.]

Have you been assigned an inmate?

Nah, not yet. Has to happen soon, though, unless the Admiral just likes me for my dashing good looks. [He grinned briefly.] How's yours? And you can't say 'he's Mozenrath', I don't know him well enough for that to be an answer.

[At the joke, he came as close to a tight smile as possible while sitting down to dinner in the middle of a crowd of inmates - which wasn't very close at all.]

He's displeased with me at the moment.

[Who wasn't, at all times?]

More so than usual.

Why, what have you done? [He paused, then twisted his lips and decided to rephrase that more diplomatically:] I mean. What does he think you've done?

[He snorted.]

Impressive recovery.

[Moving on.]

I've done nothing yet, though I expect there may be several issues to address with him.

Like how he thinks he's better than everyone else? Sorry. 'Superior to other beings'.
