Who: Mal Cobb, Jim Profit, and probably later Angelica Sexby too.
What: Mal gets lost in the blizzard.
Where: On the edges of town.
When: Around sundown, once the blizzard has really got going in earnest.
Warnings: Mal being Mal and trying to get herself lost on purpose.
From the moment the port was announced, Mal naturally began trying to figure out how she could turn it to her advantage.
She knew she was being watched, of course, and any obvious methods of trying to deliver a kick would not go unmissed. But as the snowstorm increased in intensity, a fresh opportunity made itself plain. Freezing oneself to death would not be quick, but hopefully it would be relatively painless. And on the other side of the cold was her home, California, the sun ... and Dom and the children.
So she slipped out of her room, leaving a note for Angelica that she was going out for dinner (a perfectly innocuous note) and set out down the streets of the town. She marveled at the townspeople's apparent blithe ignorance of the snow, but didn't linger on it. She pressed on, moving out of the centre of town to the edge. She took off her hat (pink, with a giant puffy white pompom on the end) and dropped it; the falling snow covered it quickly. Several yards later, she lost her gloves. Beyond that, her scarf. The snow was getting deeper and her pace slowed, but still she continued on.
