Who: Ray Kowalski, T'Pol, anyone who hung out in the mess hall late last night.
What: Involuntary awkward confessions of possibly unrequited attraction. Ray says he hates this flood. :|
Where: The mess hall.
When: Last night; that is the first night of the musical flood.
Warnings: Uh. Do I have to warn for Tom Waits?

After the unpleasant interruption Ray experienced on his way to the mess hall, he considers heading back to his room without the coffee he intended to get. He deliberates for a few moments, but then decides that one, it's late and the mess hall should be fairly empty, and two, he just sang a song. He should be safe for the next couple of hours or so. So he heads down the empty corridor and enters the mess hall, which, to his relief, actually seems pretty deserted. At least he won't have to face anyone who heard the racket he just made in the corridor.

Coffee's over to one side, as usual, and he fills up a mug before he goes over to another counter to hunt through the various jars and bowls for some M&Ms. He doesn't find any, but he does find a box of Smarties instead, which work just as well if all you're doing is putting them in your coffee. He does so, counting--one, two, three, four, five, any more than that and the coffee starts tasting weird--then grabs a spoon and turns around to leave.

Which is when he spots T'Pol entering, and hears the opening chords of a song played on a steel-string acoustic guitar. It takes him a couple of seconds, but then he recognizes the song. Good Lord. No.

Well, I hope that I don't fall in love with you.

His voice still isn't the best--not exactly out of tune, but thin and nasal and a bit wobbly. He's started walking towards the table T'Pol has sat down at, trying to will his feet into just walking past her and out the door. No such luck.

'Cause falling in love just makes me blue,
Well the music plays and you display your heart for me to see,
I had a beer and now I hear you calling out for me
And I hope that I don't fall in love with you.

Ray has never in his life wished he were mute, but it sounds like a pretty good idea right about now.

t'pol, ray kowalski
