[Yeah, he's been doing his laundry by hand up to now but it's not escaped his notice that there are large machines that seem to serve the same purpose. Iroh is investigating, and by 'investigating' I mean 'puzzling helplessly'. He comes from a world that predates electrical motors. Oh god someone help him please.]

[Bob is pulling his own clothes out of the dryer when he notices Iroh's investigations.] Can I help you?

[Iroh beams.] Ah - almost certainly! [He makes a expansive gesture at the washing machines.] I believe that these machines are for washing clothes? We do not have anything like them, where I have come from.

Yes. We only started bringing them in during my adulthood. It's fairly simple.

You put your clothing into the drum, close it, ensure the washing liquid, just around a capful, is in the drawer here and place it in a quick wash for durable items such as cotton or man-made fibres, or a wool wash for wool or other more delicate fabrics.

I see. [He doesn't, really, and his mind's caught on the notion of man-made fibres, how in the world would that even work.] So...these dials, they control how to do these things?

Basically. [He nods.] They control the temperature and the length of time required to complete the wash. Woollens are sensitive to heat, so they require a lower temperature and a longer wash to get them clean.

[He nods, laughing softly.] I know that much from home, although I ruined some of my favourite winter robes in the learning process. [He crouches a little to get a better look at the dials, then glances up at the other man and remembers himself a little, rising again.]

My apologies! I do not think we have spoken before.

[Bob holds out his hand to him.] Bob Fraser.

[There's a tiny little bit of an I'm-not-entirely-sure-what-we're-doing-here pause before he responds, but Iroh has gathered enough about foreign customs now to grasp the concept of a handshake.] Iroh. Thank you for your help, Mr. Fraser.

You're welcome, Iroh. [He returns to his basket.] Good evening.
