Even the most compact of guns could give out a frightfully loud sound and as each round slammed into flesh and bone, Aleera lurched with the impact. By the end, a very bloody vixen stood there - but not dead.
For the undead could not succumb to its embrace twice.
Normally, even the penetration of a crossbow bolt would be healed back to perfection in moments. Here, the process was slowed, yet left the vampiress angered, not weakened.
"I am Aleera... Once bride to Vladislaus Dragulia... Devil's concubine and slaughterer of men... And those within have been promised my protection."
From a crumpled heap of bloodied limbs, she rose. Perhaps not with wings, but with a look in eyes of one who used terror to its fullest. Eyes which flashed a bright purple, even as vampiric crimson dripped from splattered dress to floor.
"You have not."
Superhuman strength and speed? No. But even a conventional human being could be horridly efficient when it came to murderous intent and protective impulse. With those words, Aleera leapt with the kind of killing instinct reserved for vipers.
Dagger-like fangs and electricity could be a most painful combination, indeed. Especially when applied to a crowd of prospective targets...

A howl of pain went out, because the aim was good. Unfortunately, little other than exposure to sunlight, decapitation or a stake through the heart, was likely to do much.
With healing decelerated, however, enough wounds could at least slow her down.
Nevertheless, with a blade sticking in her flesh, it was a relatively easy task to pull it out - and now she had two weapons.

What resulted was a massed tussle of infuriated vampiress and mortal muscle. There were sparks, yells, cries of vengeance in Romanian and a great deal of would-be violence.
They might not be able to kill, but they could incapacitate.
It was inevitable that at least one of them would render her unconscious and, with it being the evening, the red-haired vixen could be transported away to captivity without spontaneously combusting.
