Who: 11-12 & Rex/Cobra Commander When: The night after this. Where: First floor common room What: Watching movies and being (sort of) friends. Warnings: Will add if necessary!
Rex was lounging on the couch when 11-12 arrived, flipping through a book on advanced computer engineering from a world far more advanced than his own. It was refreshing to read, actually, if occasionally frustrating. The terminology and processes outlined in the book were alien to him, and thus, challenging. Perhaps he could apply this to his own research in order to refine the nanomites into perfection.
Ah, the perks of a multidimensional library. A shame he had to be in a prison to enjoy it.
When 11-12 entered the room, he closed the book and looked over at the other man with a slight smile. Although he wasn't feeling as sick (or "stressed out and anxious") as he was, Rex still looked a little anemic.
"Hey." He waved a hand at the coffee table, which had a few DVDs on it, namely Terminator 2, Blade Runner, and Re-Animator. Yeah, there was a definite SCIENCE GONE AWRY theme going. "It occurs to me that I have no idea what kind of movie you like, so if these don't look good, I can grab something else."
Honestly, Rex couldn't care less what they watched. His only real reason for being here was to play nice with 11-12, in case the younger man's loyalty could ever come in handy.
XD Re-Animator... One of my favourites.villagesonFebruary 19 2010, 06:58:21 UTC
11-12 smiled more at seeing Rex there and looking.... well, maybe not completely well but up and around anyway.
He walked in and approached the couch.
"I've only seen some movies with Martha. Mostly comedies. I'd like to see more of... anything, really." There hadn't been any of these kind of movies in the Village - only some kind of soap operas on the television. He had found he was enjoying watching different kinds of movies so he was fine with watching whatever Rex suggested.
Re-Animator it is! Because it's the one I can remember the sequence of the best right nowstopthat_destroFebruary 19 2010, 16:34:21 UTC
"Hm. Most of the stuff I have is science fiction, action, horror." He shrugged. Sci-fi was definitely his genre of choice (wonder why), but he was curious to see how the very sheltered 11-12 would respond to a horror film (even if, as far as Rex was concerned, it wasn't scary at all), so he leaned forward and grabbed Re-Animator. Man, if only he'd brought The Fly with him instead. It had even more of a sci-fi theme to blend with the horror.
Oh well, live and learn. He held up the DVD. "So... horror?" With a grin, he added, "I promise it's not really that scary." Well, it wasn't to him, anyway. He moved to put the DVD in, trying to think of some conversational small talk.
He's already having nightmares about severed heads...villagesonFebruary 19 2010, 17:57:18 UTC
If anyone ever fourth-walled 11-12 they'd probably point out that he was in what could be called a sci-fi show - though he didn't know that at the moment.
"Horror?" He sounded a little uncertain as if wondering why people would want to watch horrible things but he settled back anyway, trusting Rex's judgement for now.
"I felt a bit groggy and a bit of a headache the other day but not too bad," he gave Rex a small smile. "Thanks for helping me out."
Ahaha, SORRY THEN, 11-12stopthat_destroFebruary 20 2010, 07:59:41 UTC
"Yeah. Axe murderers, zombies, monsters, that kind of thing." He shrugged and moved back to the couch, remote in hand. Personally, he totally preferred movies about killer robots and tech. "It's not as bad as it sounds."
Then again, Rex was exposed to this genre at an early age, so he was probably... very desensitized, compared to 11-12.
"Keeping hydrated usually helps," he said, then returned 11-12's smile. "Don't worry about it. I'm just glad you didn't drink yourself stupid."
11-12 looked away hurriedly, his cheeks reddening slightly. "N-nothing..."
He looked pointedly at the movie again, although he looked a bit disturbed by the images and found himself glancing again to Rex, but quickly as if hoping not to get caught this time.
Well, that was strange. Rex made a slightly perplexed face, then went back to watching the movie. It occurred to him that it'd been a long time since he'd watched a horror film... probably because the Barge was bad enough on its own. Oh well, this one was still enjoyable. Entertaining, just the right amount of gore, and too absurd to be disturbing on any level. To him, anyway.
This time, he didn't notice 11-12 looking at him again.
11-12 was half watching the movie but his gaze kept returning to Rex - which was a much more pleasant sight, he thought. When his eyes did turn to the film he cringed in parts though he also did give out the occasional startled laugh. Re-Animator was cartainly not like anything he'd seen before. The severed head in particular made him shudder - remembering the inmate video he'd seen here not too long ago - but he tried to get past that and glance even more often at Rex.
During the film he shifted a little closer to his companion.
Rex, for his part, was thoroughly enjoying the film. AH, the misfortune of others! Havoc wreaked by science. The severed head didn't even bother him, despite what had recently happened. He had seen-- and caused-- some pretty horrific things while researching nanomite technology for MARS, so he was pretty well immune to this sort of thing. When 11-12 shifted closer, he barely noticed it, assuming instead that the other man was just readjusting his position for comfort.
11-12 moved over until he was leaning a little against Rex, though in a cautious way. He glanced at him again with a shy-looking smile and went to try to slip his hand into Rex's. It could have been for comfort due to the movie or it might have been simple affection - to 11-12 it was a bit of both.
Rex wasn't too thrilled with anybody leaning up against him during a movie, unless it was a platonic snuggle from his sister or a date of some kind. That was acceptable. But, as far as Rex was concerned, this was most certainly not a date. It was an attempt to just build loyalty through "kindness and friendship" and all that other nonsense he didn't believe in. When 11-12 tried to slip his hand in Rex's, Rex looked down at the offending hand with another perplexed look, then shifted it to one of concern as he looked at 11-12.
"Uh, no..," he was lying in a way - it wasn't scary exactly but it had been bothering him a little. He pulled away again with a hurt look and focused once more on the screen but his thoughts were more on Rex than the movie.
