WHO: The Tenth Doctor, Rose Tyler
WHAT: Pre-Formal Christmas party discussions.
WHERE: TARDIS.
WARNING: Fluffy kittens.
He promised her he'd take her tonight. He also promised that he wouldn't hold it agaisnt her. It was just a kiss after all...and he IS him (technically), so he can't be THAT upset, or jealous. Besides, what was jealousy anyway except a frivolous human emotion that caused all sorts of messes throughout Earth's history- so what was he, a Time Lord from Gallifrey, doing letting those human emotions get to him in such a way that he has been lately?
Well, tonight was not the night to ask himself this question.
He straightened his bowtie, checked his hair- that gel he got at the spa on Midnight (before they moved from that planet) was working wonders- and he made sure to keep his sonic, psychic paper and one more thing on the inside of his suit pocket before calling out to Rose in the hallway of his ship.
"Rose? Are you ready yet? We're going to be late. Not that it really matters if we're late or not, unless it matters to you, but if that were the case, you'd be calling for me and not vice versa. Of course, you wouldn't call me if you lost track of time, which is quite easy to do on the TARDIS...." And he trailed off as he stopped at her door. After a few moments, he knocked lightly. "Rose?"
Rose sat on the edge of her bed all dressed up as she turned slightly to look at her reflection in the mirror with a frown. Here she was going on like nothing had happened, that was just the way of things wasn’t it? Just to ignore them especially when it came to him and whatever this was. But really she had just wanted to stay in and give things time to settle and really think but that would have to wait for another night.
There were things that she still didn’t know and wanted to ask but again it all had to be pushed down as the light knock at the door brought her back to reality and she got to her feel, heels clicking against the floor before she answered the door to see him at the other end. She gave him a smile. “Hello. Sorry about that. Was just…Well let’s just go, yeah?”
He was going to answer with something witty, something clever, and then something educational (and then possibly something of a mix of all), when he let himself take a look at the girl standing before him. He was at a loss for words (which actually tended to happen a lot with this particular female), and he was staring at her almost open mouthed (was that rude? hmm...possibly).
"Rose...you look...gorgeous. Magnificent even..." he blinked and looked her up and down, only feeling a tinge embarrassed at his actions. His hand slowly reached out to touch her face, careful not to mess any make up. "Absolutely beautiful."
If he was being honest with himself, it took everything in his power not to kiss her and let those same frivolous human emotions get to him. As that restaint kicked in, so did the rest of his mind, and he smiled brightly at her...and he remembered the other item in his pocket.
"Oh! Right!" he exclaimed as he searched said pocket, "I got you something for tonight. Nothing much, but I knew the dress she was picking out for you and thought this would look nice on you," he made a face, tongue sticking out and his eyes elsewhere when he finally found it (silly pockets- bigger on the inside), "Aha! Close your eyes and lift your hair. It's a
necklace, I'll put it on you."
He was careful not to show anything more than the smallest bit of a silver looking chain, when she closed her eyes, all evidence of when and where he got it destroyed.
She didn't need to know that this particular necklace was platinum with real diamonds. OR that it was from one of the best jewellers in this era. Just that he cared and that the necklace seemed to make her skin sparkle.
"There. What do you think? It's not much..." he scratched the back of his neck and actually hoped she liked it.
“Thank you,” the blonde replied with a blush at her cheeks. The green silk dress really had suited her as her dark brown eyes settled on him and his tuxedo. It was nothing new really that look on him. But still she found it to be more gorgeous with every go which really wasn’t all that much. If she really thought about it, this would’ve been her third time seeing him dressed up.
“And look at you. All dashing and handsome.” she complimented smiling a bit easier now and forgetting the dark cloud that loomed around them for the moment. “Doctor…” her voice trailed off wanting to protest at his announcement of having something for her. But just not any little thing but a necklace. But her voice fell flat and she closed her eyes doing as instructed deciding to go along with it while thinking if he was actually being truthful as to his reason behind it or if it was because of the latest development.
Once she felt the chain and heard more words, her eyes snapped open and she gazed down at the most beautiful sparkling diamond necklace that she had ever seen. And in a snowflake no less. She just had to gasp at it.
“…Sweetheart. This is…” Not like you at all, she thought only to smile at him brightly and then throw her arms around his neck. “You really shouldn’t have.”
He gladly accepted the embrace and wrapped his long arms around her waist, crossing at her back.
"Oh, it was nothing," he blew it off again, more due to the fact he didn't want her to think that he was trying to buy her out. That was far from the reason he purchased the items at that particular store. He slid his hands to hold her hips and he looked into her eyes. With a smile, he winked.
"I haven't given you the gift I actually bought you for Christmas yet. Speaking of..." he took a couple of well placed steps backward and with an almost goofy grin, he looked up, forcing her to do the same. "Well what do you know? We're standing under mistletoe. Can't fight tradition."
And he leaned in to softly place his lips upon hers. When he broke the kiss, he whispered against her lips.
"Merry Chistmas."
Her arms stayed around his neck, her fingertips lightly brushing along the nape of his neck at the fine hairs. She was resisting the temptation to ruffle his hair. It was just so perfect now.
“You haven’t?” she asked with a raised eyebrow wondering what other gift laid in store for her. Really this was enough as far as she was concerned. “So where did you-“ Again her voice was caught off by his gaze and his voice as her eyes followed trailing upwards to the plant. How funny that she hadn’t seen it before.
“Merry Christmas,” she murmured against his lips thinking of the gifts that she had for him in her room. Not moving a single inch before her nose brushed against his and her forehead rested against his own. “Suppose that we can’t really fight most things,” she said with a slight grin. “So where did you get it?”
"Just some little place at the port. In New York City. Can't quite remember the name...it's not important anyway. What IS important is that you, Miss Rose Tyler, look stunning this evening, and I am very happy and honoured to be escourting you tonight," he smiled as bright as possible, feeling a strange sense of pride within him at seeing her chest sparkle with the pendant that he gave her- no one else.
She really did look amazing, and no words (in the English language) could describe the sheer beauty that she was...nothing could describe the feeling he had for her at this point, despite everything. She was only human, and he knew humans were prone to silly mistakes.
But she was HIS human (for now at least- but he didn't want to think of that), and if she would let him, he could be her Time Lord, and nothing or no one could separate them.
If she would let him.
If he would let her.
Another blush swept over her cheeks at his words and she smiled brightly not questioning the place were he got the necklace any further. Some things were better left a mystery. And really she was touched that he had even thought to have picked it up then. This was something that was still so new to her. So different, her Doctor. Even before his duplicate showed up.
“No, Doctor. What’s important is us.” She corrected the smile still holding. “And I think I should give you one of your presents now.” Her arms drew away from his neck and she stepped back to turn around and head back in her room only to return with a small wrapped gift containing a CD that had caught her eye. Completely fitting for him.
“Here you go,” she said presenting it to him and then giving him another grin.
“So, um, I was wondering what was it that you were gonna say?” she asked thinking back to the day when the other him had shown up and he had said there was something he had to tell her. It still wasn’t clear to her.
"Oh that's not important either," he said as his eyes lit up like a child, "Rose! It's like you read my mind (which, mind you, is extremely hard to do)! This is BRILLIANT!" And he wrapped his arms around her again, almost lifting her from the ground in his excitement. When he felt she had been thoroughly hugged, he grabbed his key for the ship and took her hand, letting his fingers intertwine with hers, swinging his arm happily as they headed for the party.
"Maybe after the new year we'll go see one of their preformances- oh! Maybe even one of their first bigger preformances...1987 sound good?"
That wide grin and a sparkle in his eye showed her that he was very happy with his gift. A surge of emotion overwhelmed him, and in the hallway before they entered, he turned to look at her once more.
"You look stunning tonight, and I think I should do something that I need to be doing more often. Unless of course, you don't want me to, but from past experience (or at least recently), you haven't been opposed to it, but...blimey I talk too much."
And he leaned in and kissed her softly once more- no mistletoe, or anything else prompting this except for the fact that he was here with her on his arm, and he honestly couldn't comprehend how he could go on without her, knowing that she was somewhere in her timeline after meeting him, and knowing that he could very well go mad without her presence in his life. This thought made his arms snake around her, one hand at the small of her back and another holding her head gently close to his own (careful not to mess her hair).
When he finally broke this (longer than necessary) kiss, he smiled at her that same bright smile as he adjusted his suit and bowtie once more.
"How do I look? Hair look okay?"
She smiled happily knowing that he seemed to like her gift. Not that she had really thought otherwise. She was really hoping for this. “Isn’t it?” she said feeling his arms around her and then her feet soon lifted off the ground. The smile grew upon her lips and she thought would never be able to wipe it from off her face. She didn’t want to. Not in this very brief moment.
She followed along fingers lacing through his own. It almost felt like a dream. All this. Some sort of dream that was bound to fade from her memory one day. Only really it wasn’t. Her silly daft mind still doubting all this somehow. “It sounds lovely. We should!” Another beaming grin at the idea of getting to actually visit, leaving the ship. She could probably do with another leave, Especially with him.
More words and then the kiss which managed to surprise her. Her arms tangled around his neck, fingers running through the back of his head. But then the kiss deepened and Rose seemed to just melt from it before it was completely over and she was left looking a bit dazed at him. She definitely couldn’t get enough of him doing this. It was like he was pushing and pulling at every single emotion.
“Hair…” she said just staring at him and then going wordless. “It’s more than okay. It’s dashing.” And again she had to resist the urge to mess it up further.
“And you really should…” her voice trailed off as her eyes fell upon his bowtie and she started to think how it’d feel to loosen it and unwrap him in a way. “You look really gorgeous. Think all the girls will want to get a dance with you and then try to kidnap you to their cabin.” she teased knowing that really anything was possible.
