dean; open or mulitple responses. I suck at keeping up. mk. possemagnet December 25 2009, 23:43:35 UTC
Dean's the only guy that would show up at a formal event in a high priced tux while his fist was wrapped around a cheap Corona beer. The music wasn't really his speed and neither was the event but he had to get out of his room because the fluff-ball cat that someone had begrudgingly thought to get him was pissing him off.

He was pressed against one corner looking nonchalant and watching other people do their deal. He was planning on staying the mandatory twenty-five and then jetting out of their like his ass was lit on fire.

Martha had been worried about the party, really. She had been worried that something stupid would happen, or something evil or that the Barge would start going down like the Titanic. Thankfully, at present, none of those things had been going on. She didn't expect people to act so like teenagers at the party, though, and found herself trying to do now what she had always done in the past; talk to everyone and make them feel more welcome. A part of her was sure it was this inherent caretaker thing, which may have been why she started with Dean. After all, she hadn't seen him since he had gotten so beat up in his battle with Lucifer.

Being careful to avoid any mistletoe, Martha walked up to him still holding her undrunk champagne flute, with her large clutch below her arm. With a grin she said, "Happy Christmas! How's the leg?"

Dean was just about to finish his beer and high tail it out of there when Martha approached him and instead of looking disgruntled at the fact he gave her a welcome smile.

"It's good, had an angel fix me up." Dean paused and regripped his bottle. "How's Christmas?"

Martha laughed when he called her an angel. "I don't know how angelic-like she manages to be, but I guess she tries sometimes." There was a shrug when he asked her how Christmas was. "It's going much better that I expected, honestly." And it was true, but then again it was still early. "Presents and the food are lovely. You?"

Not exactly what he meant by angel but he decided not to say anything and thumbed his beer. "Oh, I dunno. The best gift for me would've been an entire day of sleep, just nothin' but relaxing."

"Why not do it? Why not just go and take a day of sleep? I think it sounds like a brilliant idea. Have a few drinks, and then nap for a whole day." Of course Martha probably wouldn't know what to do with a whole day of sleep, and she would probably get up and do something else. Also Martha in her doctoring tended to forget that there were angels and those with super healing blood whom could make everything all better again. Sometimes things stuck in odd ways, really; she had a hard time wrapping her head around it.

"I'll spend the day taking responsibility for your inmate if you like."

Dean chuckled a bit. "Well, I'd like that, but he doesn't really respond to anyone but me-- and I'd feel bad for the guy without talking to him about all this first."

Martha grinned. "Of course. My inmate would probably not be happy if I passed him off. But if he's willing to accept it, I totally don't mind doing it." Martha knew that his inmate wasn't Saxon (who wasn't here?!), and it also wasn't Judas, so she had no problems with whomever it was. At least, not that she knew of.

Dean laughed. "Well, Sirrus is really vindictive and nit-picky." He finished his beer and set it down on the table. "You wanna dance or something?"

"I'm lucky. Thankfully Nathan isn't bad like that." When he set his beer down, Martha placed her glass down as well. "Sure. I haven't danced in... ages I think." Granted, the music wasn't idea, but what could one do?

Dean smiled and held out a hand so that he could lead them both to the dance floor. He hadn't danced since that case with Bela and she had found a way to screw he and his brother over, even then. It hadn't been the best night.

Martha put her hand in his and followed his lead out to the floor. Really, she hadn't danced since Tom had visited her in New York, since before the Daleks and the Doctor and the Meta-crisis. But thankfully the dancing had been lovely, the two of them in the Rainbow Room... It struck her then, she hadn't really thought of her fiancee in a long time. Odd really. But she tucked the thought away, determined to worry about it when it wasn't Christmas. For now she would have a good time and dance and enjoy Christmas.

They moved to the music almost flawlessly if it weren't for the fact that Dean was such a big guy and it was out of character for him to be dancing. "Y'know you can almost enjoy yourself when the barge is quiet like this," he smiled.

"I know, it's odd." Martha looked around at the people who were assembled within the room, and who of course wasn't. "But a part of me can't stop waiting for the other shoe to drop." There was a chuckle before she leaned in and spoke softly. "I'm probably mental, but my purse is full of medical supplies... just in case, ya know?"

"I don't think that's crazy," Dean said after a moment. "Not with the life that I lived, I had to stitch myself up and as you saw, pop my own joints back into place. I should've died more times than humanly capable of counting."

When Dean said he didn't think it was crazy, Martha smiled. It was a beautiful, relieved smile because she had been rather concerned that someone would have found her to be paranoid. Maybe someone else would, but she was glad that Dean wasn't. "Well, I think you're an odd combination of being very brave, very industrious and very lucky, Dean."
