Miles glanced at the bed, but decided he'd rather sit on the floor too. It wasn't quite appropriate to be alone with a woman in her room, but he figured it was okay, since Rose was his warden.
He sat a little closer to her than was strictly necessary, grinning happily.
"Well now, I didn't actually do the robbing, and I never killed anybody." He wanted to seem as good as possible for Rose, and really... Flora had been the one to do most of the work.
"Flora did the work, I just made sure we could get away. Guess I didn't do so good, huh?" Miles took his cap off and touched his hair, inching a little closer to her. "And Flora woulda never told me to kill anybody. She liked doing it herself."
"Oh, I thought I was here 'cause I got shot," Miles said with an awkward laugh.
He... really had to tell her. He did. "Miss Rose," he said, slowly and reluctantly. "I... I know this probably isn't appropriate, but..." He almost reached out to touch her hand, then pulled back. "Well, I sure do like you a lot."

"I'm right as rain, Miss Rose. How're you?"
