It was a stupid fear, really. Ever since she had been "attacked" by the ten-striped beetle one summer, when she had touched it and it had clung first to her finger and then to her shirt, she had had a stupid fear of it. It was creepy looking and the coughing noise it made while it breathed out its back just made her shudder. To open her room and hear that little noise, know there was even one in there, let alone a possible handful? It was too much. Immediately she had returned to the hallway, off to go loiter in the kitchen for a bit. Some coffee could help her stay awake if she was going to be stuck outside her room for a few days.
Hayley arrived at the room in no time at all, it seemed, entering quietly in. Some dishes were out on the counter and she was never sure if that meant people were coming back or had already left for the evening. Whatever it was, she ignored it, and instead set about to grabbing coffee, filters, and water. It was something she could do in her sleep, really, now that she had partially developed an addiction to the stuff.
She couldn't help but think of last time, of when she had first met the adorable Russian ensign who even now defended her blatant lies to who she thought might be his friends. Furious that he had read her file, touched that he stood up for her, and still feeling that utter need to escape for awhile, Hayley was caught up in her own world and feeling far more anxious than usual. They were supposed to have gone camping in the CES tonight if they hadn't been sorted together, if he hadn't read her file. Now the night would turn out a little differently, a little less pleasant. She was oblivious to what was going on around her as she prepared the coffee pot, eyes seeing through the wall to her own mind.
