Alpha was browsing. This place was completely mind-numbing and he needed something to keep him busy until he figured out where exactly he was and how to escape. And a good book was better than absolutely nothing.
Of course, none of the books here were really worth reading. He skimmed a book or two, but it didn't look like any of them could hold his interest.
