[all dressed up in a darling little frock, her hair down save for the bit of ribbon holding it back, you've all seen pictures I'm sure]

Dear, dear! How queer everything is to-day! And yesterday things went on just as usual. I suppose I should just be thankful I'm the proper size again. At least, I think I am, though perhaps I'm only the ( Read more... )

*Stuck in an apron and waving a ...wooden spoon*

If you're not going to be doing anything useful, get out of my kitchen!

*Returns her attention to the pot*

[ooc: I need to duck out till sunday. Feel free to use Susie as a plot device]

[too wary of the spoon to get closer, but doesn't leave]

What are you cooking, if you don't mind my asking?

Soup.

*Throws in a lot of random spices*

Make yourself useful and wash the dishes.

[ooc: And I bid you all adieu. Night!]

I should think that after that trial you would be more careful. I suppose they found you innocent, then?

Of course not, miss Alice! Nobody is ever found innocent at the Queen's trials! It is just that no one ever bothers to carry out the verdict, either.

They all did seem quite taken with the idea of finding you guilty--even the king! But the tarts were all right there, so you couldn't have stolen them, could you.

Oh, but things are not always as they seem here. Haven't you noticed?

Yes, but some things are still precisely what they seem, and there's no knowing which is which until the thing suddenly shows itself to be different. It's all very tiring, the not-knowing.

I think it all makes perfect sense. Perhaps you are just not thinking about it properly.

How ought I to think about it, then? I'm quite sure I don't know any other way.

You oughtn't to think about it so much. Thinking never did anyone any good.

[opens her mouth to dispute this, and then simply leaves it open for a moment on seeing that tart, which looks remarkably like the ones he was accused of stealing]

So you were guilty after all! And after I did my best to keep them from simply declaring you guilty right off! ...Still, I'm quite glad you didn't lose your head, guilty or no.

I'm quite grateful for your effort, Miss Alice. I don't suppose you would care to join me for some afternoon tea? The cook and I don't get on very well, but I suppose we can handle making the tea ourselves.

I should like that very much, only I don't know that I could stand anything made in this kitchen--there is altogether too much pepper in the air. [promptly sneezes to prove her point]

I suppose there is quite a bit of pepper. *some regular bellpeppers float by as well~* But without spices, food would be so dull, don't you think?
