...what's tennis?

[ooc; You want poking? Here's poking! Sakura's a fast learner. Play your cards right, and you might have a second player for tennis!]

[ooc; Go straight ahead! Sakura does too. Otherwise she'll only speak with the Naruto-cast, and that's not cool.]

Tennis is a game - or, rather, a sport. Eiji and I play doubles, actually. There are courts, and you use rackets, and ... I'm making a mess of an explanation, aren't I?

If you'd like, I wouldn't mind teaching you a little. I've got my rackets, and I saw the courts a little while ago. Oh, and I'm Ooishi Syuuichiroh, by the way. I probably should have introduced myself earlier. *sheepish*

Sounds interesting. My name's Haruno Sakura, pleased to meet you. I wouldn't mind learning tennis, seeing as my only other choice for entertainment is to make paper cranes all day, or something. This place is a bit boring when robots aren't chasing you to take your dirty clothes, you know? Ah, I'm rambling!

Either way, I'm curious about this sport now...it'd never hurt to know more about other worlds, right? If it's not a bother to you, I wouldn't mind learning...

Nice to meet you as well, Haruno-san. You'll enjoy tennis, I hope, and it will be good for me to keep practicing, even a little. As for the robots ... they've been very discreet so far as I can tell. I've only seen one once, and didn't think it wise to interrupt.

If you have some free time now, and don't mind a bit of exercise, I don't think the courts are too far off. Of course, if you don't have the time now, you're more than welcome to start whenever. I'm staying in room 45, with another school friend, Fuji. Like you said, there really isn't much to do here, though I've been trying to place everything.

What, uhm, world are you from?

Probably not, I've heard what happens to those that do interrupt.

Are you kidding? I have nothing but free time, without missions, or hospital shifts, or friends to save from utter danger...you catch the drift...I'm mostly free.

Ah, well, we don't call it any way different that Earth, but the difference is in our countries, our cultures, our clothes, and especially our jobs, I think. You could say it's a world where the economy flourishes thanks to their....um....ninjas. *knows it sounds ridiculous, yeah*

Ehehe ... there's a lot about this place I think I probably don't want to know.

Wow, it sounds like you had a lot of responsibilities before. You've already finished university, then? I'm not even in high school, yet, but my uncle is a doctor, and I'm certainly considering that, for the future.

Well, in that case, I'm glad to have run into you! There's a bit of 'prep' work, before you will start actually playing, to get you used to holding a racket, and the different grips and shots ... I hope you don't mind running, though, because laps are an easy way to start warming up, and work on your stamina at the same time.

I think I understand what you mean about your home. My background seems normal to me, but that's only because it's what I know, I suppose.

Univer--what's that? No, we're not...we don't have those sort of things. Children are either sent to a school where they learn how to count for business and such, or they're sent to a ninja academy. We do have ranks there, actually. There's genin, chuunin, and jounin. I'm only chuunin, actually. And...university sounds like something you'd do when you're older, from what I've read about it in books here...I'm only 15, so...^^;;

Oh, I won't mind. I run daily, actually, since I need to improve my stamina as much as I can. Each day at 5am. Or at 10am if I get lazy that day. Or am recovering...or something.

Aah, not many really understand it. It's a long story, but if you're still interested, I can tell you about it while we run?

[ooc; Wow, Sakura'll be the bestest student, you'll never hear her complain about running! And chances are she'll learn how about the grips in no time, maybe associating them to how one grips different weapons. Tennis=ninjaing! OMG.]

I think I'll take you up on the offer to talk while we run.

No university? Sometimes I think my parents live to see me in ToDai; I can't imagine what not having that in my future would be like! How is a child's future decided? At home, we all go to school, at least until we finish middle school. After that, we can try to get into high school, and then university, if we like, or we can choose to start working right away. I've never heard of a ninja academy, though! I hope I didn't offend you, Haruno-san, about the university. You just mentioned hospital shifts, and I didn't stop to think that maybe you didn't have universities... *worries*

Normally I run at practices, but most of my endurance probably comes from my swimming. Still, I've heard some funny things about the pools here, so I'll probably have to stick with dry land for a while.

I hope you don't mind if I say that wherever you're from, it sounds fascinating.

*assuming they're running, she's probably not using chakra to boost up her speed, which allows her to keep up next to him* *that way, when he trips, she catches him on time, pulling him back up, and resumes running* Thanks, I...hm, depends on sensei's moods. Normally, twenty laps around the forest, so that'd be...um...about an hour ( ... )

*keeps running, hoping she notices neither blush nor wince at being caught*

I think I see what you mean. But, not everyone does pick their futures, even in Japan. Taka-san, another boy on my team, is my age, but next year he'll have to stop playing tennis to help at his family's restaurant. Still, I'm not sure I can really compare choosing a course of study with participating in a war. At the worst, I'm responsible for no one but myself, and I can handle that. I mean, I worry about a lot of things, but in the end, the consequences aren't life and death if I make a mistake. I'm not sure how I would cope if I did have the safety and lives of other people on my head ( ... )

I can't help but think that at some point, there would be a choice between teammates, and the civilians you protect. I'm not sure I could make a choice like that.

Clearly, I'm in the right world, dealing just with my exams and clubs! And, it's confusing sometimes, having different dreams and goals, but that's life. I mean, you have choices too, and you're obviously making the right ones. I don't believe that upbringing alone can possibly be responsible for your admission that you'd give your life for your team. *mild hero-worship* I know someone who's made sacrifices, for his team, and even if it didn't cost him his life, it cost him a lot. More than most people would think. I've never even had to think about sacrificing myself for someone else, and you say it so casually ( ... )
