Holy Moly, it's been forever and a year since I last posted up in here. Amy wants me to, though, so I'm going to.
Starting with...A REPOST!
Ha, I put this up in my MySpace first, but I like it so much I'm going to share with LiveJournal too.
1. Dancing Machine - The Jackson 5 feat. Rhymefest (from Rhymefest's brilliant Michael Jackson mashup mixtape Man in the Mirror--seriously, look for this on the webbernets; it's genius)
2. New Look - Namie Amuro (samples The Supremes, from her single 60s70s80s)
3. Run Away Love feat. Lupe Fiasco - Double (what's with all the big-time hip-hop heavy hitters producing and guesting on Japanese artists' albums? Lupe, Kanye, John Legend, Ad-Rock...the list goes on. I love it!)
4. California Love - My American Heart (holy crap, one of the best hip-hop covers ever, and it's by an indie band!)
5. Fight the Blues - Utada Hikaru (you'd be hard-pressed to find a mix I make for myself that DOESN'T feature this girl)
6. High Five! - They Might Be Giants (a dance-pop, almost disco track all about giving high fives, featuring a kids chorus, from TMBG of all bands, off of their kids album Here Comes the 123s! It's kinda genius).
7. I Wish - The Secret Handshake (an indie-electronica rendition of the Skee-lo classic. Also kinda genius).
8. That's Not My Name - The Ting Tings (oh man, one of the best songs of the year!)
9. Charity Case - Gnarls Barkley (the most summery song on a very dark album).
10. Discipline - Nine Inch Nails (Is this song about S&M? I hope not, but even if it is I love it so).
11. Hiphopopotamus Vs. Rhymenocerous - Flight of the Conchords (olol)
12. Pork and Beans - Weezer (I'ma do the things that I wanna do!)
13. Mother Mary - Foxboro Hot Tubs (Green Day is pretty awesome, I don't care what anybody says).
14. Mad As Rabbits - Panic at the Disco (a funky Panic...I am starting to really enjoy this band).
15. Oh Yeah - YUI (I'm a big fan of chick-and-her-guitar acts like Jewel, Lisa Loeb, etc. YUI is kind of the Japanese equivalent, and this song is some great pop-rock).
16. Sunshine - Stellar Kart (a band that grows on me more and more every day, and a song that you can't help but associate with a summery, upbeat spiritual feeling).
17. No.9 - Asian Kung-Fu Generation (brisk pacing, fun use of woo-hoos and vox-box type stuff in the chorus and hook, and one of my favorite bands).
18. Let's Dance - Hawk Nelson (Yes. Let's).
19. I Was Made For You - She & Him (Zooey Deschanel doing her best doo-wop. It's rough, but that's part of the charm. There's something very warm & fuzzy about every song on the album it comes from, but this song especially felt good as a capper to my Summer 08 mix).
