for Juliet [TR]

Clinic shifts weren't usually trying and today was no exception, just a long stretch of hours with the occasional band-aid or aspirin in between. For a woman who'd once been a world-class surgeon it was something of a let down, but at least Helen had something to while the hours away. She had made plans to meet with Juliet at The Winchester for ( Read more... )

Juliet is clad in jeans and a tank top - always a tank top because that's all the dumb clothing box would give her. At least it gives her a variety, and this one is black. If she'd had jewelry to go with it, it might have been a cute look. As it was, she manages to get her hair to do something manageable by the time Helen knocks.

Closing the door of her hut behind her, she sighs with a smile. "I'm ready for good food and good wine. And fantastic company. I don't think I've gone out like this in...years."

"Me either," Helen admitted, shaking her head a little. "It's hard to find the time for a girl's night when you're out chasing things that go bump in the night doesn't leave a lot of time for leisure activities."

Helen wasn't sure why she felt so comfortable with Juliet but she suspected it had to do with the lack of a true friend who didn't have an ulterior motive and just wanted to spend time with her.

"Mmm, try having a thirteen year old son to raise alone," Juliet counters. "But I suppose chasing things in the night tops a hormonal teenager. Maybe. Possibly?"

Juliet's finding that she's comfortable with Helen too, because it's been years since she's talked to another woman casually who wasn't Rachel. And sometimes Juliet just needs a break from her sister.

"I don't know. Having raised a girl myself, I find them about the same," Helen said, tone a little exasperated. "Ashley was a handful as a teenager. Was still a handful, all the way until...well. That's maudlin. Come on, we've dinner and drinks calling our names, right?"

"Yes, and personally it's the drinks I'm most interested in. Especially after this past weekend. Did I tell you I dislocated my shoulder trying to walk back from the compound to my hut?" The rest of the week has been busy, helping people at the clinic, and she honestly can't remember if she might have said it in passing.

Helen winced a little. "Damn. Flying debris, I presume? I admit, I don't like storms at all, so I was a trembling mess all weekend. Luckily I live with a psychiatrist, right?"

It was easier to focus on Juliet's hurt, a physical one, than anything else.

"No lingering problems, right?"

"No. I fell," she smirks, because it's really a little pathetic. "I tripped up on my own feet. Everything's fine though."

She looks over at Helen as they walk.

"I stayed with Joshua."

"Oh?" Helen asked, curiosity piqued. "How did that go, exactly? Hopefully better than my weekend with Will. We won't go into that awkward."

"Let's start drinking before we talk about it. There's other stuff to tell you, too."

She won't say anything about Joshua being a V, that's no one else's business. But she needed to talk about the other part of it with someone before she became a full time hermit.

"Drinks sound like an admirable plan," Helen agreed, flashing a quick smile. "Besides, perhaps we'll find some eligible bachelors to spend the time with. Hawkeye's fond of drinking, he might be around."

"Hawkeye? Sounds interesting," she grins. "Now, where are we going exactly? I've never been anywhere but the clinic and New Atlantis."

"The Winchester," Helen explained. "I popped in last Friday and they actually have what seems to be a decent pub. Food, liquor...anything you could imagine. Very posh for a deserted island, if you ask me. I'm fond of it."

"Oh, thank God. I was afraid it'd just be a little room with a bottle and a table," she laughed. "I never know what to expect from the island. Well, I can count on one thing: tank tops and nothing else," Juliet laments.

Helen tsked. "I get sundresses in a rainbow of colors but it never gives me black. I only wore black at home. I had the sweetest Dolce and Gabbana suit that I wish I'd packed before leaving on the trip that ended up landing me here. I could have used it."

"Part of me knows I don't need anything else. Where am I really going to wear Dolce and Gabbana here? But I just miss my stuff. I even miss the things I shoved to the back of my closet last year."

Not that Juliet has ever in her life owned anything from Dolce and Gabbana, but it's the principal of the statement.

"I miss the variety," Helen agreed, laughing a little. "You would have fainted to see my closet back home. It was the size of four of our huts put together, I swear it."
