St. Pete Times:Confederate group plans giant flag in Hillsborough County
TAMPA - Next year, a giant Confederate flag may tower above the tree line near the junction of Interstate 75 and Interstate 4.
The Sons of Confederate Veterans wants drivers in the Tampa area to see the massive flag - 30 feet high and 50 feet long - atop a 139-foot pole, the highest the Federal Aviation Authority would allow. It would be lit at night.
Great, I'm going to have to look at this fucking monstrosity every day on my commute.
Seriously, why haven't you people gotten over this yet? You have NASCAR, country music, every US president has to pander to you idiots, our culture and politics are dumbed down to cater to you, and yet you still aren't happy because blacks don't have to put up with your shit anymore?
When can you finally admit that you were on the losing side of this one? When are you going to let this go? 2078? 2234? Pick a date, please.
After all, you've been at this Confederate idealization for over a hundred years. Sure, it's been worse since the civil rights movement, but it's been going on full steam since the 1890s or so. You've built monuments and plaques and museums and tributes all across the country, even in places like Helena, Montana, building a
Confederate tribute fountain in the capital of a state that didn't exist during the Civil War, honoring the imaginary Confederate dead of a place that was wild Indian country at the time. Good show!
So you've had your fun. Enough is enough. It's the 21st century. We'll be on Mars soon. Time to put the muskets away.
