1st Spell [Accidental Video]

[The PCD switches on just in time to reveal a tall, thin, reasonably ruffled looking young man in an outlandish red cloak and large, feathered hat tumbling roughly to the ground and dropping a large pitcher filled, spilling wine out. The feathers forward and obscure his face, slightly muffling his voice.]

[Fumbling a bit with the PCD; he no longer thinks that there are people IN THIS STRANGE BIT OF METAL ON THE GROUND, but he's really just lucky it's stuck on video right now.]

[This... boy dressed in clothing so outlandishly flamboyant as to be able to give even Albus a run for his money cannot possibly be Merlin.]

[Look, it's not his FAULT, okay, Arthur made him wear it again, and Merlin was just so happy that Arthur was alive and not dead after that whole dragon thing that he couldn't really bring himself to argue with him.

Merlin scowls.]

Merlin was the greatest sorcerer of all time. You look like you barely understand the concepts of magic.

I don't really understand the theory behind most of it, I guess, but to be entirely fair, I don't have a teacher. I just sort of, you know - [waves his hands about expressively] Do it.

Meeting your childhood hero who you should have never got to meet because he's been dead for a while, only to find out that he's just this scrawny, clumsy boy with worse fashion sense than Albus... He's beyond disappointed.]

[Merlin fidgets a bit under Snape's look and eventually seems to notice that a great deal of disdain is being directed towards his feast wear. With a particularly fierce scowl, he rips both the hat and the cloak off of him and throws them both to the ground, stomping on them once for good measure.

He really hates that outfit.]

What do you people want from me, I don't know what any of you are talking about.

[Okay, so maybe the boy has some sense, if the vehement discarding of his outfit meant anything. Some of the disappointment lessens.]

So why is any of this my fault? I live somewhere magic is illegal, I can't study magic without fear for losing my head.

I'm happy that this appears to have changed in the future for you all, but I'd rather if you didn't hold whatever image of me you have in your mind that history has distorted over time against me - it's not something I have any control over, after all.

[He stops short for a moment.] Well, erm, no one, I guess. But you seem to be taking my existence as some sort of personal affront.

[Oh, Merlin will not tolerate a bully of any shape or size.]

That's, um, good? I guess? Isn't it better to know a person than an idea?

[He can still kick massive magical butt if you get him riled, Snape, it's just a matter of actually managing to get him angry enough. Besides, look at his adorable little face.]

[Don't tempt him, he might actually do it just to see if Merlin was capable of anything. That, and he's Snape, bastard extraordinaire, kicker of puppies and utterly immune towards anything adorable. Adorableness just makes his wand arm itch.]

Only if the person is worth knowing.

[And besides, Merlin wasn't just an idea. He was the one that all the little wizarding children wanted to grow up to be!]

[Actually it might help Snape take him more seriously. But I'm willing to bet he's never kicked a puppy quite like Merlin before.

[Of course not, he cuddles them and feeds them his dinner and loves them lots. Except, the only dogs he's really been in contact with are Arthur's hunting dogs and that awful rottweiler statue, both of which tried to eat him, so, erm. Maybe not.]
