Wise man's fear - Adem

Ротфусс опять гениален в своих формулировках. Вот до чего же прекрасно человек умеет в коротком диалоге в красках показать всю глубину культурных различий и различий в мировоззрении!

A statement more scandalizing than true.

How do I mean that? (:
Just saying that the primary aim was to scandalize.

Dunno how :) Just asking to be sure :)

And I really doubt the author's aim was to scandalize readers :)

Maybe not, though popularity's worth it. Modern literature is too obsessed with sexual relations, as it seems to me, so this may be a common thing for a more advanced reader.

Honestly, this author has much more up his sleeve to impress readers than a few scandalizing sketches on different sexual behaviours of various imaginary neighbouring nations :)

And speaking of sex in literature I do think this is a backfire from falling of centuries-long taboos put on sexual relations earlier. It's like a swearword taboo: when it's lifted, everyone starts trying to compensate for preceding censorship. In years to come, serious writers will overcome this urge of compensation and will find an aurea mediocritas between too much and too chaste.

*offtop* Honestly, I believe that sex is another part of healthy life like eating or breathing, and establishing taboos on certain topics of healthy life is somewhat unhealthy. What harm would come from food talk, from talk about walking or singing? No more harm would come from sex talk either */offtop*

A reasonable point of view. However, Vonnegut and Böll already handle the issue quite easily, so the compensation should have been lasting for too long. Maybe there's a change in social attitudes contributing.
And neither I think that food talk can be a good plot for a book I'd like to read unless it's a cookery book. Proper things require proper focus on them (although tastes differ, no doubt).

P.S. I love the compromise we found between working and waisting time (:

There are two gaps in my education you are referring to *ashamed*

Food talk hardly could provide a good plot by itself, but it could be rather bright and colourful illustration of character(s) involved :)

Re: P.S. I like this compromise myself greatly :)
