And so passes Richardson's chance to win in New Hampshire, territory of Red Sox Nation, and New Jersey, clearly a pinstriped country. And should he survive that, he will undoubtedly lose to any Republican in the general election, and that GOP candidate will only have to replay that one interview as their entire campaign strategy. Seriously, where was the campaign manager and communications director to shut him up?
That came after the "hard hitting" questions, though the Red Sox/Yankees hypocrisy might cost him more votes.
Remember the whole tirade after Russert (in that same interview) asked Richardson to justify his call for energy independence while serving on the board of directors for Valero oil? Richy Rich, as I like to call him, said that he was just trying to earn a living. Yeah, like serving on a big oil corporate board is just making enough cash to pay off that mortage payment and put food on the table. I dont know how Richardson can get energy independence when he was once a boardmember of a corporation in an industry with their interests being the exact opposite, and while he still has huge investments in the aforesaid company. This was only preceeded by Russert bringing up Richardson's vote for an assault rifle ban, and then leading legislation to repeal the very law he once legislated in the US House of Reps. His answer, "I am a western governor, Tim." What the hell does that supposed to mean? Western Americans are inherently different than those of East? Or that cultural issues, as Richardson claims assault rifle ownership in the western states is, trump common sense issues of security and law enforcement? Aside from an unfortunate value system based on regional collectivism, Richardson believes it is okay to stick the finger in the wind of public opinion and overturn otherwise responsible law. Furthermore, he wasnt even governor when he voted to repeal the assualt rifle ban, so I dont know how the governor part of "I am being a western governor" has anything to do with the issue.
Richy Rich also discussed that his favorite Supreme Court Justice was pro choice, when Russert cited the dissenting opinion authored by this judge during the Roe V Wade case. Prior to that, Russert was interviewing Richardson about the leak of nuclear secrets to the People's Republic of China during his tenure as Department of Energy Secretary. After being asked how the leak happened, Richardson said the leak happened because the documents containing the stolen secrets were found behind a xerox copier. Yes, he ran the DOE openly, so workers can copy nuclear secrets at will. The former governor then justfied his tenure at the DOE for improving energy efficiency standards in basic house appliances.

God, I love our government.
