we can see right through you
they assured me
and i wished for a goldfish

the children look past my face
and pluck pebbles from the floor

only they can see themselves
transformed in the water

there was a lady
who's lips were painted
with crimson red lipstick

she peeked into her purse
after we kissed
and nodded graciously as she left

she knew that all she had
were the lips she'd left with me

i've forgotten the boy
who held my glass bones
in his palms for all this time

i stayed full
until i asked
why he hadn't let me dry out

i confided in him once,
i told the boy that
i was afraid my transparency
was unappealing

he told me that
he didn't believe it was possible,
he was already in too deep
for it not to have begun

suddenly my invisibility
was clouded
and he who loved me
in all of my emptiness

let me drop
and shatter
