When I watched the Invisible Children DVD last year God stirred it in my heart to write the children letters of prayer, scripture and encouragement. I contacted Jolly (The African woman on the DVD who pops bottle caps with her teeth) and she gave me details about how to make this project possible. The letter writing process has gotten off to a slow start and I NEED YOUR HELP.
The purpose of writing these letters to the children in Uganda is to show them the love of Christ.
Please begin your letter with "Dear Friend" as we do not know who the letters will be given to.
Paragraph 1: Tell the child a little bit about yourself. Include your name and things that you enjoy doing or your favorite things (like: food, music, color, sport, etc.) PLEASE DO NOT make any references to the luxuries of American life.
Paragraph 2: Scripture and encouragement. Please DO NOT write things like, "I'm sorry that you have to run for your life." Make no references to the specifics of their situation. These letters are meant to encourage not discourage. Encourage them the way you would a friend. Write them about things like, God's love, faithfulness, trustworthiness, grace, protection, and strength. Please include atleast one scripture.
Paragraph 3: This will be your closing paragraph. Add any extra thought or idea. Tell the child that they are in your prayers (and then PRAY FOR THEM). Maybe even write something like, "My prayer is that you will always trust God and know how much He loves you."
Please send these letters ASAP. They will be hand delivered at the beginning of the Summer. Please email typed letters to:
