Wandering

Oct 31, 2010 19:36

Went wandering down the streets a few minutes ago. Been out for... oh, a half hour or so. Most of the houses are dark. A smattering of porch lights here and there, beckoning for something that we might not see. Maybe one house in 20 has a jack-o-lantern glowing near the door. No children laughing in the distance. No squealing, yelling. The only sign of life was a Domino's delivery car.

Halloween is either dead or in a clinical coma.

...What happened to my childhood? When did it leave? These streets used to be full of people, of all ages. Teenagers and little toddlers and schoolkids and parents. Flashlights in the dark. The crinkle of candy wrappers in buckets and pillowcases.

When did it go? Why did it have to leave? And can we ever really go back to the way it used to be?

Can it stop being just Sunday and be Halloween again?

bound and determined, why you gotta do this to me, cai is a sap, brb gonna go mope
