Now that I can't much answer. From what I've gathered it's because some scientists experiment went awry. Unfortunately that means we were affected, pulled in to this place from our worlds.

I've only been through one myself, but I hear that they are something frequent. The last one we were put into dorm-rooms with a curfew enforced by Gnomes.
