I was still trying to make nice with my brother over the whole stolen ring thing. He had no clue it was me, would never dream his sweet baby sister would go to all the trouble of trashing his place and staging a break in just to get what did technically belong to her. I shrugged a little. "It happens when you dad's an alcoholic who slurs his drink order so badly that rum and coke becomes Roman coke to a 15 year old who starts sneaking them." I frowned when she explained about her dad. What was it with fathers letting their kids down? It was so weird that two of the best dads I've ever met were both vampires. How crazy was that? What did it say about us anyway ( ... )

"You'd know an alcoholic if he was one." I assured her. "My dad... he just had these problems. My mom died when I was a baby, there was this house fire, and he saved me instead of her. Suffice to say, he never really got over it. I think drinking became his way of dealing with it, you know? Because he didn't really know what else to do ( ... )
