And We're Off...

Alas, the beginning of another year. Not that I should really be enjoying the first days of 2008 (as many of you know, I'm working steadily on an application to graduate school, and the online part needs to be submitted on the 2nd. I'm planning to get it done in time to watch Project Runway in peace - hopefully the next 30-something hours should play like a time-lapse video with a soundtrack of "Suture Up Your Future" by the Queens). But yesterday and earlier today I got properly Communed, and on the 3rd I'll be properly Chi-towned (when I first proclaimed I'd go to Chicago, I vowed to listen to Kanye West and the Smashing Pumpkins on the plane, but I'll probably just fall asleep).

I don't have any particular goals for this year (save for the obvious ones), nor do I have a song in mind that I hope will set the mood for the upcoming year (2007's was Fiona Apple's "Better Version Of Me," and I'm not sure if I properly lived up to it). I guess right now I'm hoping to able to answer at year's end the question posed in "Objects of My Affection" - "...the question is, was I more alive then than I am now?" with "I happily have to disagree."*

Keep your fingers crossed. Good luck to you all.

*the rest of the chorus emphasizes that sentiment too - "I laugh more often now, I cry more often now, I am more me..." That's a hot song.
