Optimism
happiness is the driving force that makes lives progress. in a way, happiness makes the world go round. happiness is required for any beeing on this earth to do any task. form hunting prey to paying taxes. happiness, for you and me, comes in small pockets. a smile or a laugh.
the most smile or laugh inducing situations are what we call "comedy". The word comedy comes from the greek words for revels (Komos). this hedonistic definition makes one realize that comedy comes from enjoying one's self. personally, when i think of comedy, i think of Chris Farley, Will Ferrel, and Elen DiGenerous. or, in simpler terms: Bugs bunny and Elmer Fudd.
why do we laugh at Elmer Fudd when his gun blasts in his face, just because Bugs stuck his finger in the barrel? well, it's half because that, in reality, if ya rabit stuck his finger into someones gun, there would be a much less humorous and much more horific outcome. most likely sending Bugs to the emergency ward at the Acme Animal Clinic. the other reason is that, this comedy has brought society a means to take happiness from a bad situation. this comedy has given people a way to laugh at misfortune.
this is an element in all kinds of comedy. we laughed at Ben Stiller when he burnt the house down in "Meet the Parents." a horible situation. we laughed when Krusty the clow was arrested for robing the Kwikeemart. whe laughed when Vin Deasle had to babysit a few children and their duck in "The Pacifyer"... oh, wait, no we didn't. and Harry Whittington eventually laughed after he was shot in the face by Dick Cheney.that is a true testiment to optimism.
on a closer look, comedy has pretty much been created by optimism. every time we find something funny, we are taking something good from a bad situation. a laugh, or a smile. and it is these samll pockets of optimism thtahelp society run. they help everyone on earth find motive to do something more. these chortles and giggles are what gives optimism a definite and permanent home in modern society.
and i am allways happy to be a part of their production. i am, myself a creater of this universal optimism. i take pride in making people realize that something funny can allways be said.
