Quick update on Costume progress
After spending the majority of my holidays cleaning, sorting and organising my unit, I realised I had less time than I thought for costumes. Combined with my new budgetary restrictions, it meant that I had to seriously reconsider my costume plans for Armageddon. Specifically any new costume plans!
So my schedule is looking thusly:
Sat Morn: Wonder Woman
Sat Arvo: Classic Leia
Sat Eve: Classic Zatanna
Sun Morn: Aurora
Sun Arvo: Silk Spectre I
Though I still have lots to do, so that might change. The biggest problem at the moment is Leia. My previous dress is in really poor condition, especially after our last troop was a rained out muddy mess! I worked on my new one today and made a bit of a stuff up, so I've got half a hem to unpick. Sadly this fabric isn't very kind to unpicking! So I've got to unpick the hem and work out a different way to do it. Then there's the hood and collar. If I can't work out a solution easily enough to have it finished tomorrow, then I might have to abandon the project for the time being as I had planned to spend this week working on my assignment and NOT stressing about costumes! Which makes me sad because it means that I'll miss out on the RL photoshoot and I'll disappoint a few people :( But I really trying to avoid stress right now, and that includes last minute costume stress AND last minute assignment stress.
I'm about 2/3 of the way through my Zatanna vest. Again, I made quite a few mistakes with it, so I'm going to have to be a bit creative with putting it together. I had to alter it quite a bit to get it to fit (massive alterations, BUT they shed some light on an ongoing fitting problem I've been having, so yay!) but it's looking pretty good! I was able to scrounge enough white delustered satin (left over from the corset I made for starfirephoenix's wedding) to do the front panels and collar, with some brushed cotton drill from my stash as the back and lining. Hooray for using stash!! That will definitely be finished tomorrow.
Tomorrow I'm hoping to get in to a hairdresser to get my hair done before Armageddon. Also got a few last minute items to pick up at the shops, hopefully including materials to make a wand for Zatanna, new WW bracers and possibly a new Aurora crown. Then back home to finish Zatanna's vest; sew hooks and eyes on my WW cape/bodice and Aurora skirt; and wrestle with Leia to see if I can get it finished! Oh and I still have some pattern drafting to catch up with before Tuesday... oops! Yeah busy day tomorrow! But Pretty much whatever isn't done by tomorrow night isn't getting done. Excepting Leia, all my costumes are in pretty reasonable wearing condition, I was more working on upgrades. So regardless, I'll still have at least 4 costumes for the weekend, including one completely new one and one that I've not yet worn to a con. So yay!
I really want this con to be one where I don't have a stressful, late night week leading up to it! I plan on enjoying my time at the con, enjoying spending time with Matt, and spending time with my friends. There's quite a few people going who I've not yet had the chance to meet, so that is also a huge highlight of the con for me. So regardless of what I do or don't get done, I will enjoy my time! Coz that's what it's all about in the end!
