More Bustle dress trials

Yup, I'm seriously getting sick of working on it. Which really sucks because I do love my bustle dress! But I'm getting jack of the colours and the patterns! With all the time I'm spending trying to fix it up I could have a new one *sigh* But that's not the point...

Anywho, I took a few photos.

The first one is what I spent all day trialling, and finally settled on. If I stuck with this version, I would put a third 'skirt' section in. This was made using two layers of underskirt, but I realised if I did this, I'd actually just do the one overskirt (the top layer) and then attach 2 other pieces behind it as fake underlayers. so you'd have the top layer of the skirt, then a maroon pleated frill, then a piece of printed fabric attached behind that, pleated maroon frill, then one more piece of printed fabric, and maroon frill. So it would be one overskirt, but would look like 3. It looks alright, but still just doesn't look right to me.

The next two shots are my experiment this morning based on the idea of I had last night. It would definitely look better than this, as I just quickly pinned this piece in place, but it gives you an idea of what I'm talking about. It would have the matching maroon pleated ruffles and maroon trim around the edges. If I did it this way, I would just have to determine whether to use all maroon ruffles on the front of the skirt, or alternate maroon and printed ruffles. hmmm

Of course I just had another idea... I could leave off the front overskirt altogether, just adding a bustle drape at the back. Put the maroon pleated frill around the entire underskirt, and then add a pleated printed frill and a pleated maroon frill to the underskirt at the front. hmmmmmm

Yup I'm starting to get sick of this particular bustle dress. Nothing I think of jumps out at me as being perfect for this outfit (except making the underskirt out of printed fabric and the overskirt out of maroon, which is so not happening!). I cut out the strips for the maroon frill around the bottom of the skirt yesterday, so I'll do all that today. Once it's sewn on, I'll just leave the dress for the moment, and come back to it next week when I've had a bit of a break from it. I'm just really starting to tire of it, and just want something new! I can work on my Giselle dress, and of course Rita!
