Clubbing in Liverpool in 1962

“Nice place,” Edmund said, meaning that he thought it was fine and Mum would have kittens if she knew her youngest was in a Merseyside boardinghouse. He put his bag on a rickety table and was glad that it held and was surprised that it had.

“Thanks,” Lucy said.  “It’s not much, but given the housing shortage and, well…”  She shrugged easily.

Mum might have kittens, but would probably not be surprised. She is, after all, rather more on top of things than they think :-)

A fun little piece, and it fits so nicely with Lucy's fascination with Liverpool in AW! And "Silver Beatles" :-D

I'm mostly looking for diversions from this weekend's commemorations. Hint Hint poke. And typical me, it never occurred to me to draw connections to Beatles and beetles. Snacky has been busy working on something involving Edmund and a greek dancing girl after he gets off the Vasily's fishing boat in the Black Sea and how he goes searching for Atlanteans.

The band were currently getting a drink at the bar, and Edmund noticed Lucy peering at them with a somewhat predatory look. He had to admit that they were easy on the eyes. Rather more so than many of the strippers in those German "clubs", honestly.

"Edmund," she said, "Which of them do you think is the slowest?"

He was quite sure the bafflement was clear on his face. "The slowest?"

A mischievous glint appeared in Lucy's eye. "Didn't the Crows always say the slowest beetles tasted the best?"

I'd say that this reply should have come with a spew warning, but that would be impolite.

Also, had to hide the screen when my tween wondered why mom was laughing so hard.

Sorry, could not resist! I suppose some sort of "thinly veiled naughtiness" warning might have been appropriate. I do suspect that Lucy has a rather unrestrained sense of humor.
