This is an original song written by the Christian band before they became famous. It's a beautiful mixture of light and darkness, almost as much a song for Good Friday and Easter as it is for Christmas. If I can make time for it, I want to cover this. If not this year, than next!
A Little Lower Than The Angels by Over The Rhine
A beautiful instrumental by the Ohio married couple Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist. They've released a few different holiday albums, and their Christmas songs, both traditional and original, are always breathtaking.
Both songs are a little darker than one would expect, but in my opinion lack the "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" melancholy.
