*flop* Is it the weekend yet?
...What do you mean I just had a weekend?
It's been a really busy one. I spent Friday night browsing iTunes and spent, er, a lot more than I should have. Heh. I did also get some significant writing done, though, so that was good.
Saturday was the Day of Shopping Forever. We started out around noon (because Mike had to hang out at the new place awaiting the maintenance guy so we could present our list of complaints upon first moving in; among them are things like "we cannot lock our deadbolt and it must be replaced; also we had to SCRUB OUR CABINETS you did not even TRY to clean this place up; p.s. I need keys, please.) Anyway. So off we ventured to the Ikea, where I needed furniture.
Two hours and $500 later, I am the owner of three large Billy bookshelves, one of the narrow ones, and a new six-drawer dresser (because my clothing, despite the sort-and-toss I did in January, has outgrown its holding area once again.) We arranged for delivery--$60 was entirely reasonable to get people to schlep it all the way back to the new place and upstairs for us, and they delivered on the Fourth, omfg so we went off to our next target.
Mattress shopping was....weird. I felt very awkward actually lying down to test out the mattresses, and the sales staff were sort of hover-y. However, we did find a mattress set we really liked, and they were having a 60% off July 4th sale, so we wound up with one of the Vera Wang line of Serta for $1200 in queen size, with free delivery and a frame. (We'll figure out headboards and footboards later.)
We headed back to my place to collapse in the A/C and have some nibbles, and then Chris M, an old DCP alum, was in town for the Fourth. We met up with him at Celtic Knot for supper, then meandered over to the beach, then back to the new Andy's Frozen Custard that just opened. Oh. God. I love frozen custard. And sweet dense chocolate custard topped with tangy raspberries = LOVE FOREVER. om nom nom nom.
We met up with a
wrenbow with intention to go pubbing, but apparently some nitwit had driven into a light pole and Pub Alley was blacked out and thus closed down. So we went back to
wrenbow's place, and flopped to watch some Comedy Central, and then headed home.
Yesterday we were up early to wait for the Ikea delivery, and we put together the dresser just to get it out of the way. Then Mike wanted to bike down here on his new bike, so I drove home and had a nap on the couch with Zelda. When Mike got here, we got cleaned up and headed into town for dinner with Chris M and Nat, this time at Merle's. We wandered around killing some time at Barnes and Noble (I have more romance novels--yes, this was totally a necessary purchase!) and then went to the lakefill to watch the fireworks, where we acquired a
hyaenid and a Matt. It rained while we were waiting for the fireworks, but the show went on. It was shorter than it's been in years previous; this doesn't surprise me, as I believe that particular Fourth show is run off of donations.
After fireworks we met up with Emery and Nat and Jim, and went prowling for places to drink. We ended up at Buffalo Wild Wings, where we had the worst service I have ever encountered. I strongly contemplated counting out exactly enough to cover my items plus tax and leave zero tip. I mean, seriously, I've worked food service. There were not enough sat tables in the bar to account for the shoddy service we got even if our waitress had been the only one on the clock, and she wasn't. Shoddy, shoddy service. After that we retrieved the car and headed back home, where the cats were noisy all night and I don't think either of us slept well.
Today was a visit to Target in search of area rugs, and then we tried Lowe's for minifridge and freezer, which was not the best of efforts. Eventually we came back to the new place, built four bookshelves (!!!) and set them all up. They are empty and sad now, but they will be FULL OF BOOKS soon, and I'll be very excited.
I made dinner--summerfood of sauteed onion, yellow squash, and zucchini over egg noodles--and we snuggled a bit, then cleaned up the detritus of Ikea assembly and I got ready to head home. The following was our parting conversation:
Me: Soon there will not need to be commute for snugglins.
Paladin: (very emphatically) Yes!
And so yeah, that was my weekend. No wonder I'm worn out. (Also, I succeeded in my "daily writing" on Friday and Saturday, but failed yesterday. I've succeeded today, though. I shall keep on keeping on, even though I've already missed a day.)
How about y'all?
