weekend of amazing FOOD

and I am not going to feel guilty about one. single. bite.

So Friday night, Mike and I went to Di Pescara for dinner. I had a gift certificate, and I wanted seafood, and it was a beautiful day. So, I put on a sexy dress and off we went. (I am missing one of my really cute outfits, and I don't know where it went. However, Mike confirms that I have worn it since I moved. This probably means it has fallen into the Bag of Holding that is my car's trunk. I'll have to check tomorrow when I do the grocery shopping.)

We got a bottle of sauvignon blanc to go with our food - the waitress recommended it, and it was fantastic. (Like many whites, though, it's much better when icy cold - we finished off the bottle at home, and mine had warmed up by the time I finished, and I didn't like it as much then.) Mike got a potato-crusted halibut, which was the evening's special, and I had Alaskan king crab legs with a crab cake, roasted potatoes, and corn on the cob. The king crab legs were delicious, and the crab cake was incredible, especially with the mustard sauce. So. Good. I love the dessert menu - for some things, you can pick "one bite," "two bites," or "full". They had a Valrhona chocolate mousse cake that looked intriguing, so we got the "one bite" size (because we were both pretty full.) It was, in fact, just about eight to ten bites, but it was the perfect size and while very rich and chocolatey, was not overly sweet. (I personally would have liked a tiny touch more sweetness, but I have an unrepentant sweet tooth.)

On the way back, we ended up swinging by Williams Sonoma and picking up one of the little butane torches, because we wanted to make the creme brulee recipe from our class at Sur La Table months ago. We realized it would take far too long to do Friday night, so we didn't start it, but we made tenty fingers and EVIL PLANS for Saturday.

Saturday we went to Mike's place and made the creme brulee, and then he made chicken parmesan. And by that, I mean that the sauce was homemade and it was a giant pan of delicious Italian goodness. We played some more of Final Fantasy XII - we've just gotten to Bur-Omisace - and then I drove home, and he biked down to meet up. I suggested that maybe we could start a game of Super Mario Galaxy, and he thought that sounded fun. He started from the beginning, because it'd been so long that I had no idea where I'd left off. He's much better at it than I am, and has already accumulated about 20 stars. Also the Sweet Sweet Misery (hat-tip to
renay for that name!) was not as mean to him as to me. Sigh. Life is not fair.

He woke up earlier than I did today and played some more Mario Galaxy, and then I got up and we made chocolate chip cookies. mmmmmmmm. cookies. My apartment smells like chocolate and baking goodness and I love it.

I think I am headed over there this evening for delicious Italian leftovers, and I will bring with me some video games. I am debating what I should tackle next on the PS2, now that I have conquered DDS2 (end verdict: not impressed; play DDS1 and then YouTube the plot sequences for 2). Maybe I'll go back to my PS1 backlog and see what I can do with it - I could try out Persona 2, or maybe get around to the Suikoden games finally.

Or maybe I'll just keep playing Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled for a while. It's so old-school! I love it!
