And by shiny happy toys, I mean fic. And recs.
The Invaluable Art of Knowing When to Fold, Chapter One
Final Fantasy XII/Final Fantasy VI crossover, where Celes has always lived in Ivalice; adjustments have been made to her backstory to accommodate this. PG. 3200 words. "One of the most valuable lessons a young sky pirate will ever learn is when it is wisest to simply cut his losses and walk away." Balthier/Celes.

InsaneJournal This piece originally was intended for
no_true_pair (IJ) and then it was uncooperative. I rather like the way that it turned out, although I am annoyed that Celes informs me there will be multiple additional chapters. Come on, like I don't have enough to write!
That being said,
churched has been writing a bunch of fabulous fic lately, and I present a group of recs, accordingly.
Changeling, Persona 3 backstory, PG-13. Chidori. "Blood and rebirth; every butterfly needs to get its wings. Chidori's wings are broken."
What I like about this piece is the disconnectedness of Chidori's thoughts, the kind of floating feeling, and the sense of just how messed up in the head Strega are.
Summon Unto Dreams, Final Fantasy X, PG. Yuna. "It's not just her life anymore. Yuna seeks to remember what has been forgotten."
So, this is full of aeon meta, and basically that is awesome. Yuna reaffirming her commitment to the summoner's path in Remiem Temple.
Forever, Persona 4, PG. Saki and Yosuke. "The cycle continues on, and the spirit grows heavier. Thousands of hears of weight rest of Sakis' soul, and death cannot come soon enough."
True Ending Spoilers. That being said, I like the way the mythology is twined into the story, and I love Saki's sense of disconnect, the isolation that surrounds her.
