Playing catch-up

Okay, apparently the lead-up, event of, and recovery period from Otakon collectively resulted in my F-list not trying to kill me this last couple weeks, which believe me, I am made of appreciation for!

Let's see, what's been happening? *checks LJ history* When last we left our intrepid heroine (ha, ha), I had moved into my new place and was about half unpacked.

Well, I'm still about half unpacked. Maybe I can upgrade that to 75%.

So on Monday I commented that the refrigerator did not seem quite cold enough. That was an entirely accurate assessment, as it turned out; the fridge had up and died on me. (Brand-new, for that matter.) I called the landlord, and spent all week without a fridge OR freezer, which was of course totally awesome. They finally replaced it Friday, making rather a mess in the process, and now it works. Net losses: 1 dozen eggs, half a gallon of milk, 1 lb. butter, a full crock-pot of my mom's spaghetti sauce, almost full bottles of lime juice, lemon juice, and sour mix, and some leftovers.

Not a happy kitty.

So yeah, it's been a kind of stressful week. However, my kitchen is rapidly approaching "actually unpacked," and there's starting to be enough room in my common room that soon I can pull the dining room table to where it's going to live permanently, which will mean I can set up my desk and have my desktop internet-ified and everything. YAY. (My mom was apparently convinced I had no kitchen tools of my own. I don't know how this happened since she had bought me a ton of pots, pans, etc. when I lived in my first apartment, but whatever. I now have more pots, pans, plates, etc. than I could possibly need.)

It has, however, been a pretty damn awesome couple of weeks for food. Mike made lasagna for Star Wars last week, which was exceedingly delicious. Of course there was my mom's cooking and eating out all last weekend. Thursday night, Mike came over and brought various foods he was trying to get rid of, by which I mean we had kobbelwurst (apologies if I butchered the spelling) cooked with onions, and fresh broccoli from his fridge. Friday night, we worked on emptying his freezer and scavenging the remains of my fridge, and we ended up with a round steak from his freezer, pasta with olive oil and parmesan/romano cheese from my pantry, frozen corn from his freezer, and sliced green pepper from my fridge. Also some fantastic sparkling cider my mom had brought me. Mmmm.

Saturday he had to get up early as he's going on vacation with his family. I dragged myself out of bed and summoned wrenbow. Since I now had a working fridge, we swung by Jewel and I now have actual food in the house. We came back and had lunch of French bread, prosciutto, and fruit, and then commenced the unpacking. We wrestled the pantry into place (by which I mean she did), and got the bookshelf that I wanted moved to the place I wanted it to. I unloaded a few more kitchen-related boxes, with the net result that I have a lot fewer boxes about now than I did at the beginning of the weekend.

Saturday night I made pasta with alfredo sauce for dinner, and then Nat and I hung out, watched Olympics, played some games, and then I drove her home.

This morning I slept in quite late, despite the kitty's efforts to the contrary. When I finally did get up, I admit I kind of reveled in the ability to just wander around the apartment in nothing but my underwear (because the cat doesn't mind). I watched some equestrian sports on the Olympics and kicked around washing some dishes so that I could put them away, and tucking some things into the storage unit downstairs, which is now clear of the nonsense that was in there previously, that did not belong to me.

wrenbow came over again and we've been playing some Guitar Hero and other things. I made a pretty awesome dinner consisting of really tiny asparagus spears sauteed in butter, garlic, and lemon, and tossed with some pasta shell. It was fabulous. Must do again.

And now, I continue trying to beat Puzzle Quest on XBox Live Arcade so that I can complete that, and cross another game off my Backloggery.

(P.S. Dear FF12-Fandom-At-Large, why do you suck so much? FF Tactics Advance is doing a better job of plot and characterization than you are, at present. Plz to stop sucking; I want people to enjoy. Love, Rina.)

puzzle quest, final fantasy tactics advance, apartment, moving, argh!
