This will probably be a little bit disjointed, as I'm currently trading off Guitar Hero 2 with the wonderful
wrenbow, so I'm going to be writing this in sections instead of one long ramble as I'm accustomed to doing.
So, I spent all of last week going insane.
wrenbow and Melzer helped me enormously on Sunday with getting things into boxen. Monday night we played Star Wars at Melzer's place. Tuesday night I did a little packing and cooked supper for the finale of my Mage game, which seemed to go over pretty well. I enjoyed it a lot and I think I struck a decent balance between the power of the players to alter the outcome, and the story I wanted to tell. My players seemed pleased so that's good. I'm re-energized for GMing now, I think. Which is exciting! I am glad to be really enjoying that hobby again.
Wednesday night,
wrenbow and I had dinner and internets at Panera, then came back and kept throwing items into boxen. I fell asleep late and was tired when I got up on Thursday for my last day of work for the week.
I left work and headed to Best Buy, where I acquired a very sexy LCD HD TV. Melzer met me there and helped me bring it upstairs. Then Mom arrived with furniture, which we (by which I mostly mean Mike and my mom, despite my best efforts to the contrary) hauled up to my third-floor apartment. Mike went home and Mom, Snoozie and I went to Omega for a late dinner. I had cherry Coke, which wasn't my best idea ever, as I then slept very very poorly for about six hours before getting up and running over here (amid many stomach issues) to wait for the Comcast guys to show up.
They did show up right in the middle of the window I'd been told to expect, and got my TV and my internets running (hurrah!) Then Mom and Snooze showed up, and shopping commenced. The first furniture store we went to was WAYYYY out of everyone's budget range (and to be perfectly honest, had I bought anything from there I'd have been fucking terrified to use it because any furniture that costs upward of $1000 is just...not okay.) We went to a different place and I found a nifty little coffee table that has cabinets underneath (great for storing game controllers and the strategy guide for whatever I'm playing at the moment!) Mom bought that for me, and then we ventured forth to Ikea.
My memory of how to get there was pretty epically wrong, so after a semi-frantic phone call to
celeloriel, who saved my ass, we got turned round and got back to where we needed to be. I found a bookshelf I wanted, a dining table/chair combo I liked, and a TV stand. The TV stand was the most immediate need, so we bought that as we wouldn't have room for the rest, and I ended up keeping my old table and chairs for now. Mike has kindly volunteered to pick me up the bookshelf at some point, so that's good (I wanted something more sturdy to hold all the gaming books.)
At this point, exhausted and cranky, we went to Cheesecake Factory for dinner. Mike called while I was there, amid a misunderstanding - he was in a really bad mood, we'd had a miscommunication about when I wanted him to come over, and that left me pretty damn close to tears. (And here I was doing so well at surviving the entire week without a breakdown.) We finished dinner, and I was really super freaking out anxious as I headed back home.
By the time I got there, he had calmed down and was packing stuff up with
wrenbow. I apologized, he assured me that it was just a miscommunication, and we got to work.
After we'd gotten my desk disassembled and most of the remains of my room packed, we curled up together. I had a minor breakdown of stress and tears, and got petted and soothed and comforted, and at that point everything was pretty much okay. We headed out to Jeremy's farewell party at Prairie Moon, and didn't stay too late - Mike had to get up early to go play a wedding, and I had to get started moving.
Saturday was another not-nearly-enough-sleep day, but damn, my friends are amazing. Really, really amazing. They got everything moved and packed into the truck (mega-props to
calhin for that!) and then moved up into my new apartment in record time - the entire thing was about five hours, start to finish, counting about an hour break for lunch. People dispersed, some to movies, and some back home. Mike and I returned the U-Haul, and then started unpacking. After a couple hours of that, half the books were unpacked and there was enough space to pull the furniture into appropriate seating positions. About half the folks returned for a fantastic spaghetti dinner courtesy of my mom and Snooze (nobody makes garlic bread like my mama!)
bobbler put together my TV stand, with some help from Melzer, in about 20 minutes, which was awesome.
We watched some Buffy Season 2 (two of my fave episodes, "School Hard" and "When She Was Bad," were involved) with
wrenbow,
herod_the_nut, and
a_leprechaun. Mike stayed over, which was good, because I was definitely not ready to be all alone in this apartment. I got up Sunday and went to get a pedicure with Mom and Snoozie, and then we got brunch at Flat Top. We came back and Mike came over to help me unpack some more. I got all my games and DVDs put away (except I have no idea where my DS games are packed, but there's a limited quantity of boxes to go through, so I'll get there eventually.)
We went to dinner at Lawry's, then came back I crashed. I slept until 9 this morning, which was good. I caught up on the Internet this morning and watched some of the Olympics (I've been leaving it on for random noise so I feel like I have company.) Speaking of which, gymnastics is on. *drools at the men* I wish Alexei Nemov was still competing. That man was beautiful to watch, in many more ways than one.
...Um. Where was I?
Right. Today I got my headlight fixed, and then came home and did some unpacking in the kitchen. (Wow, I have about a billion dishes now.)
wrenbow came over and helped; my room is almost 100% unpacked, and we got more of the bookshelf done today. I have one bookshelf still to do, which can't really be done until I finish unpacking the kitchen so that I have space to move it to where I want it to live, and then one bookshelf to move to where I want it, which will wait until I sort out the matter of my storage unit, which appears to have someone else's stuff in it. Boo.
It's back to work tomorrow, which ought to be interesting.
Meanwhile...there is gymnastics. I want to stare at men doing inverted Maltese crosses on still rings for a while. *ogles*
