Weekends are best.
Friday night Melzer and I went to Olive Garden for dinner, and then came back and curled up with books for the rest of the evening. Yesterday I took Ganon to the vet, where they informed me he is too fat and that I should scatter his food around the house and make him hunt for it. mmmkay. I made an effort at that this morning. We'll see how it goes. He's sitting over there being noisy at me.
Anyway. Chicago Botanic Gardens had a wine-tasting festival this weekend, so we went venturing up there yesterday. In the 90 degree heat. And full sun. :D I hadn't been to Botanic Gardens previously, and we wandered around most of the exhibits. The Rose Garden was pretty, but very little of it was in bloom. The Japanese Garden was also very nice.
Eventually we wound up at the wine festival, which was really awesome. I discovered that Barefoot has a new Moscato for about half the price I usually pay, which made me super happy, and also it's good. I love Moscato. We also found a vintner from Missouri that makes cherry and strawberry wine, and I am all about that. There were a few others - I found a Riesling that was amazing (but sadly very expensive, $16/bottle ugh) and we found a very tasty white wine from Argentina, and a red wine from...I think Spain?...that was also really good.
The most interesting thing was a place called D'Marie, which was selling this stuff they call frappé vino along with chips and dips and things. The frappeacute; vino is basically stuff you mix with water and wine and it makes a sweet wine slushie. Melzer and I each bought some (I also bought dips and chip things, because omg spinach garlic pesto chips and roasted garlic dip = YES) and we made it last night - basically it appears to be made of sugar and instant tea mix with extra citric acid. He thought it came out too sweet; I don't believe such a thing is possible.
So at this point it was about 2pm (having been there since about 10:15 or thereabouts) and we headed home, reveling in the air conditioning that Boco graciously provided us. We got home and he went off to do laundry and stuff. I went to my room intending to play Lost Odyssey, but ended up lying across my bed and falling asleep for the better part of two hours. (Hey, we did a lot of walking!) I woke up still tired and very groggy at about 5 pm, and my back did not feel quite right. In fact, it felt kind of tingly-sore-itchy.
Well, fuck.
At this point I would like to note that we did have sunscreen (I bought SPF30 because I burn if I stay out for ten minutes) and had applied it quite generously. My problem was basically that I had dressed for the heat - tank top and shorts - and between the straps of the tank top and my purse strap, had apparently rubbed off the sunscreen enough that I have a fabulous dark-red sunburn scattered in a vague U-shape across my back and shoulders. stompy feet. My arms, legs, face, and chest are all fine (except for one little spot on my chest where apparently sunlight invaded my tank top and I didn't have sunscreen there), it's just my back. Of course. So I've been lazing around in really loose, really soft T-shirts since then, with generous applications of aloe.
calhin made tasty burgers for dinner last night, and Melzer made guacamole and we had tasty veggies and so forth. I still haven't beaten Lost Odyssey. I'll make a stab at that after I've been to the grocery store, which is next up on my list. And then I had probably better start, you know, working on my Mage game, since that starts tomorrow.
Still, a successful weekend thus far, and it's not even over yet. :D Happy!
