Yet More Muttering About Our Corporate Overlords

Yeah, yeah, back to the thing that 99% of LJ fandom has been going on about for the last three days, because I have some more stuff to say.

sgreenwell made an excellent point that LJ is a private company, and as such, is well within their rights to tell us what we can and can't post on their servers. I'm not disputing this at all. LJ certainly does have ( Read more... )

follow the invisible rules, fandom wank, fandom idiocy!, lj stuff, invisible rules!

I think it's a little too late to look not crazy, after the whole strikethrough debacle, because too many people are posting OMG NOT FAIR!!!11! posts that just make us look whiney. And people are spamming comments on news, and I'm sure not all of them are written in mature, respectful fashions. If anything, fandom is screwing itself over on this one, I think. And I realize I'm in the minority here, but alas.

Oh I went and commented on News - once - pointing out that I thought this was really ridiculous and that I wanted clarification on the policies. But there's a difference between demanding clarifications, and being asshats. We have the right to the former, but not the latter.

LJ, in this case, is being a bunch of prigs. We can't follow invisible rules when teh only way we know we've broken them is to get banninated.

I think honestly that this entire thing could have been solved had people labeled their art with a warning "18 years old" or put it behind a f-lock, which honestly, I think may be good to do anyway with art that has adult content. I know I'm completely in the minority, but I'm staying out of this, because I honestly think fandom should probably do a lot more to make sure this doesn't happen rather than complain retroactively and then just bitch and moan.

As I said before - I'm fine with following the rules, but you have to tell me what they are. Simple as that.

Pond is possibly handling this more maturely than ANYONE ELSE.

My second-biggest objection is that they were given no warning (which burr86 and barakb25 swore up and down people would have) but simply banninated, which actually lends credence to the theory that it's actually a copyright issue with WB, but LJ is too cowardly to say so.

Thank you!

I admit I'm quite angry, but screeching does little good.
