Another computer question:

My laptop came with an HP battery, 4000 mAH, 14.8V. soangsty kindly gave me an HP battery, 4400 mAH, 14.8V.

Does the 400 mAH make a huge enough difference to prevent me from using this battery?

Assistance is ever so much appreciated. thanks!

The mAH different just means it should last longer. The important part of any battery (or power converter) is the output voltage, which in this case is the same. Your laptop is expecting 14.8V, and giving it more or less is likely to cause problems.

The other important part is the connection. If it were a different brand I'd be really hesitant about it because if the wires are switched in the connector it'd be really bad. (Like, blow up go boom bad.) However, since they're the same brand, it's really unlikely that the connectors would be any different. In fact, assuming it fits into your laptop correctly, you should be golden.

If you want to be really safe, some googling on the battery part numbers could probably yield the exact specifications from which you could see if the pin out on the connector is the same. (Or alternately, if you post the part numbers someone else could try to do this googling and comparison for you.)

What's your laptop model? I'm not finding as much information as I'd expected for the second one, but I found the following compatibility list for it:
* HP Pavilion ze4000/ze5000 Series Notebook
* HP Pavilion XT Series
* HP OmniBook xe4100/xe4400/xe4500 Series
* Compaq Presario 2100/2500 Series
* Compaq Business Notebook Series N1050V, nx9000, nx9005, nx9008, nx9010

My laptop's an HP Pavilion ze4145, so I should be able to use it then, right?

At least with phone batteries, they don't recommend that a user uses too many mAH's over what it allowed. For example, a 400mAH phone would not enjoy a 1500mAH battery.

I'm not sure what is considered too much (besides what I just mentioned, but I would think 400 more mAH should be fine. At work, we typically recommend anything between 200 and 600 mAH more than what the original phone battery was.

Again, this is with phones, hopefully it is about the same as a computer, or anything eletronical equipment.
