It's been rather a good weekend.

Yesterday we went to bobbler's with pooka_madness, calhin and timeshaper for a Shadowrun oneshot. After the painful 2 hours of character creation were done (the Shadowrun system is immensely headache inducing for character gen), I ended up with a B&E specialist named Tara. We did a retrieval mission--getting back a girl who'd been kidnapped by the Halloweeners. I enjoyed it, although I think I would've liked it better if my brain had been slightly better engaged and if I had known the system a little better, because we spent a lot of time blundering around trying to figure out what on earth we were going to do. But it was fun. I got to crawl around in airducts, and drop a stun grenade, and stab a guy in the chest with a diamond-coated survival knife. Afterward we all came home and I hung out with Pooka a bit while he played FF Tactics and I baked a double chocolate cake. He went downstairs, I played some Tactics myself and talked to shoecollar.

This morning I got up somewhat earlier than I really wanted to and made potato salad, deviled eggs, and baked beans. Chris made cornbread, Eben made hamburgers and shared his George Forman grill for the cooking thereof. Rob brought ice and made pina coladas, and Melzer came down with oatmeal-raisin squares. I threw the barbecued pork stuff in the oven, I'm not spectacularly thrilled with how it came out but it was edible, which is really all I can ask for, and hell, I don't have to cook for a few days!

We watched And Now For Something Completely Different, so that, in Dana's words, we could mock the British for losing (which then provoked me arguing about the War of Independence, so Eben and Rob called me un-American and wrong. Bah!) Eben wandered off to play Aberrant with Evil. Rob had brought Independence Day, so we watched that and enjoyed it. Then Rob wandered off to go see fireworks with some people and Chris, Melzer, Dana and I went along to the lakefront.

We ended up perching on rocks which poked into my ass most uncomfortably, but then when the fireworks started they were partially obscured through the trees, so we got up and stood in the road to look. It was a solid 35 to 40 minute show, and very nice. This town always puts on a damn good show; when I was looking up times earlier the article on the website said that it's ranked third in the nation behind DC and Boston, which is pretty hot. They had a band playing happy patriotic songs, which was quite good.

Then we came back here and I played a bit of Tactics. I've just gotten Beowulf and Reis. I guess Beowulf will take the place of my priest/summoner/chemist. The wizard/knight/ninja/summoner/chemist will hold out a bit longer since she's got a higher Brave/Faith, and I'd like to avoid replacing the Chemist/Ninja/Knight/Thief/Squire as long as I can, since he's not only damn useful but he has a Brave of 79 and a Faith of 49, which means he's a freakin' tank.

And now I am hanging out talking to shoecollar and pondering what will happen in my Demon game this week, where I'll be introducing spreadnparanoia's character. I'm thinking about playing a bit of FF6 and working on my walkthrough, but that seems all effortful and stuff. Perhaps I'll just do something else. Or maybe I'll devote all my attention to AIM.....problem is, AIM doesn't usually keep my attention.

Fweh, I think I might switch to the laptop so I can sit in bed and fiddle with stuff.

But yes, overall, excellent weekend. Tomorrow is writing thank-you notes, writing a couple of return letters, planning Demon, jobsearching, writing emails to aid jobsearch, cleaning, doing some research for my trip across the pond to figure out where/when I want to go and stuff, and if all of that gets done, maybe my FF6 walkthrough?

God, just thinking about all of that makes me so tired....
