I threw a great party last night and then spent today quietly hanging out with friends and watching football, as is our tradition. What a good way to start the new year.
Also traditional with starting the new year: goals!
Video Games
Primary Goals
* Remove more than I buy from my backlog
* Remove at least two of the games I bought prior to 2008 (there are 19)
* Remove one system from my backlog (Most likely SNES; PSN, 3DS VC, PS4, Vita, PSX, and 360 are also contenders)
* Log into FFXIV at least once a week
* Finish FF13 and at least one other game for MU
* HAVE FUN
Stretch Goals
* Get all battle classes to 60 before the FFXIV expansion hits in June
* Remove more from my backlog than I acquire overall
* Remove two systems from my backlog
* Get my unfinished percentage below 44% (from 46.8%)
* Try to clear all 2017-purchased games in 2017 (with the exception of Christmas acquisitions because I am a reasonable human)
* Finish an additional MU game, for a total of 3
I decided to change my phrasing from "beat" to "remove from backlog" because I am trying to teach myself that it's OK to not like a game and to decide I'm not gonna play it. Also, in 2016 I made efforts to both keep the backlog from growing with new things, and to clear my oldest stuff, and I liked that balance. I want to see if I can keep it up. Also just in general, restraining myself with video game purchases, which I got better at in 2016.
Writing
Primary Goals
* I pledged 200K at GYWO, so that's my word count goal.
* Post one fic (or chapter) of at least 1000 words once a month.
* Post one fic per week of at least 100 words for the prompt challenge with Sev (can overlap with previous)
* Edit and post six chapters of Every Light Casts a Shadow
* Remove three items from the bunny list, which will be revised in February
* Revise Trilogy 1 based on feedback and send to agents
* Complete a GenPrompt Bingo card
Stretch Goals
* Edit Trilogy 2
* Edit Trilogy 3
* Finish 2015 NaNoWriMo draft
* Edit 2009 NaNoWriMo
This is pretty similar to last year, but given how few things I accomplished of this list, it seems reasonable to do it again.
Financial
Primary Goals
* Pay off a credit card
* Pay off a student loan
* Save for a new laptop
* Appropriately plan and save for Scotland trip
Stretch Goals
* Pay off the other student loan
* Reduce another credit card by 10%
* Be able to increase my 401(k) contributions by 100% (to $100 a paycheck)
....the student loan bit is cheating a little, because one of mine is down to about $100, but still. (The other is rather higher.)
Health and Spirituality (content note: mention of weight)
Primary Goals
* Lose 15 pounds. Starting weight: 165.6
* Work out three times a week
* Ritual practice on all eight high holidays
Stretch Goals
* Lose a total of 20 pounds
* Ritual practice to mark a moon phase at least once a month
Based on my experiences in 2016, I'm trying to be more reasonable with my weight goals. I mean, admittedly, I screwed around a lot and didn't focus very hard, but still. Achievable goals?!
Miscellaneous Goals
Primary Goals
* Complete one sewing project
* Practice piano half an hour a week
* Choose, finance, and accomplish kitchen remodel
* Keep up with bullet journaling
* Post more to Dreamwidth! Twice per week, minimum.
* Keep up with my daily sudoku calendar
* Read and review 50 books
Stretch Goals

* Do more with gardening--tend beds, plant new things
* Conquer my magazine pile and keep it that way
* Read at least 5 nonfiction books
* Read at least 5 fiction books that aren't romance/comfort-fiction
I have, once again, set myself a very aggressive list of goals and I know I won't hit all of them (I'm not likely to even hit all of the primary ones), but that's okay. I like having a lot of things to choose from and make progress against.
and now, specific goals for January!
