Characters, Characters, All Over Characters

Feb 20, 2014 21:52

This is a combination post, since
shanaqui asked me for "a character you relate to and a character you squee over," and then
pete_thomas asked me about the character I relate to most.

well.

The characters I squee over tend to fall into my archetype patterns, but I guess the clear winner here is Kain fucking Highwind. Since he's the obvious one, let's talk about a different character I squee over: Ashe.

I really enjoy Ashe mostly because of her flaws (most of the characters I squee over most are ones I love for their flaws). I like her fury, and her impatience (I am not as awesome as she is but I can relate to the way she reacts to things sometimes.) I admire her determination to get back what is hers because it was wrongly stolen from her. I love the way she is offered the easy way out and doesn't take it, the way she thinks around solutions and takes unusual roads to get to where she meant to be all along. I love that she refuses to be defined by anyone else, and clings hard to who she is (maybe too hard.)

I've been thinking for most of this month about who is the character I relate to the most, and I'm not sure I have a good answer. Maybe Lehas, from Magna Carta: Tears of Blood, because I often have this feeling that I'm watching everybody else do way cooler stuff than I am doing and I'm sort of stuck taking care of things. (This is mostly on bad days.) On good days I think I relate to Mia Ausa from LUNAR: Silver Star Story: I can be kind of dumb about the real world, but I'm smart enough to learn and get better and as long as I keep trying, I'll get there. (totally not kissing Nash though. Gross.)

This question probably would've been easier if I watched more TV and movies instead of playing video games where one's character options tend to be more...traditional.
