We survived!

Jul 10, 2013 22:30

Well, I did get the car back - it turns out there were other things messed up too, like a nut on the front strut being loose? which was causing it to be really noisy - it is now quiet enough that I flipped out halfway across Indiana and demanded of paladin, "Do you hear that clicking?! What is it?!" and he eventually determined it was the windshield wipers which my car has never before been quiet enough for me to hear. So that was a thing. (they click faintly when they engage, apparently.)

We decided not to try to drive 14 hours straight (which would've put us back in Chicago at about 5 am, after which we'd have gone to work--yyyyyeah.) Instead,
seventhe was gracious enough to put us up for the night halfway there. It was so good to see her (and also there was a Storm from Hell menacing the area as we drove through; it's a damn good thing paladin was behind the wheel because I would have been in tears.) We got up when Sev did and headed out really early, stopping only for lunch (mmm, Cracker Barrel biscuits and gravy) and then made it back to Chicago about 2pm yesterday.

At any rate, we are safely back home and the cats were very glad to see us, and then ostentatiously ignored us, and now are back to their normal selves. Work today wasn't too bad, although there was a sudden! pile! of! things! that were all much more urgent than they otherwise might've been, but I survived. I did not manage to come home and Get Things Done, which I had totally convinced myself I was going to, but that was just foolishness on my part.

The garden appears to have survived fairly well without me; the basil is looking a bit dry and the cilantro is trying very hard to spread its seed enthusiastically about the countryside, but hopefully we have put a stop to that nonsense. My rosebush has gone bonkers and is blooming in all directions, which I'm pretty excited about. And it seems that the pale-purple petunias I had last year committed themselves to volunteerism in a big way; I've got their descendants peeking up amid the strawberries and flirting with the peppers, which is a pleasant surprise.

I am thinking of starting a Couch to 5K program. In fact, that was one of the things I meant to do today, but perhaps it would be better to start next week. Meanwhile, I'll go for nice long walks. (I have an app, I just need to get out of the house and start doing it. I bought it before we went on vacation, but didn't want to start something only to immediately stop.)

...In unrelated news, I keep staring at Steam hoping it will say it is Summer Sale now. I don't need more games; this is a problem. (Especially since SMTIV next week and the accompanying offer to Enact Shinies if one also has Fire Emblem: Awakening is making me contemplate just how much I want Awakening...and none of this combines well with the car expense. aaaaaargh.)
