I don't know if it's just because I've worked in the service industry before, but I tip. And I tip well, especially when it's deserved. When it comes to restraurants, I almost always tip 25% and when it comes to the drinking kind of festivities, I exceed that. I know that when I go out to a bar, that bartender runs his or her ass off for everyone in the place to make sure you have a good time.
What I don't understand is the people that can go to a bar, drink all damned night, and not tip a goddamned cent. I know I work my ass off as well, to make sure these people don't have to wait around with an empty beer bottle or drink glass in their hands, I make sure they don't have to use a dirty ashtray or even lean on or against a dirty bartop. I go out of my way to smile, laugh and converse with everyone there, even those I wish would walk out the door. I do this for 8 hours a day, 5 or 6 days a week, every week and yet I average maybe $20 a night in tips. It's pathetic.
Now I know the economy is shite, but if you've got extra money to throw away on your liver, you might as well hold out a couple of bucks to the people helping your ruin the damned thing. It's common curtesy.
All the time I hear people say 'There are two types of people you don't want to piss off. People who serve you food and the people who serve you drinks.' Well damned if they don't keep pissing off one of them.
Bah!
I'll take my $7 take for the evening and go buy a stick of gum.
