is THAT what you call bedside manners?!
so got to the ER at 9:10am, straight in to a room..
no pain killers this morning though, i cant drive on vicodin...
so im sat there, and the pains growing...and growing...and growing....and i continue to wait, and it continues to grow and grow, to the point im almost in tears...
finaly 11:30 rolls around and in waltzes the dr...looks at me, muters something, lays me back, grabs the bandaid on my chin and RIPPP!!! tears brought to my eyes quite quick considering the pain i was already in...
he looks at me and shkes his head then grabs the cotton gauze padding that is currently embedded into my chin, which has by this point gotten dried blood around its edges, has partially glued itself onto and INTO the nice hole in my chin, and simply RIPS it out, no warning that it might hurt, no pain killers, no nothing. I'll admit...i cried, it felt like someone had just pulled part of my face off, and imediatly the now open wound is throbbing like crazy...
the dr looks at me and goes...
"it cant of hurt THAT much...besides your chart says you have a high pain tolerance..."
I felt like taking a scalple and showing him how much it hurt, but instead just took some deep breaths...
he then tells me...well thats all you need so...
I imediatly tell him that the dr yesterday told me i needed to come back today for a second dose of iv antibiotics because of how feice this infection seems to be...he shrugs his shoulders and goes...well...i guess i could give you iv's then...and walks off...
at this point im in an incredible amount of pain, pain that made my wisdom tooth abcess feel heavely...and off he goes, i say outloud that this hurts alot and asked for something for the pain and he just shook his head and wandered away.
i lay there for an hour before a nurse came for my vitals, at this point im at a 9 on the pain scale (and yes after talking to the nurse about it he kind of abcess pain im going through is akin to kidney stones. so no im NOT exagerating) she asked me my pain scale number 1 being no pain and 10 being i think im going to pass out from pain now, and i told her about a 9, i also explained id been put on vicodin for the pain but since i had to bring myself today couldnt take it so currently have NO painkillers in my system, she has this HORRIFEID look on her face and tells me shes going to get this sorted out for me. She goes off and the dr comes back in...
he tells me that hell be sending someone in with the IV meds, and i ask for painkillers...his responce..."Ok ill figure something out"
by this point its now about 12pm and my last Helpfull painkillers were at 5am...no OTC doesnt help!
and off he goes again...its about anoother 1/2 hour after that before the nurse comes back in...same nurse from befroe she sees im still close to tears in pain and asks if ive been given any pain killers yet because there not on her list...
nope...
so she hooked up the iv and then goes on this rampage after the dr, i could hear her "talking" to him in a rather strong tone...as she explains "that poor girls is in excrucuating pain and hasnt had ANY pain kilelrs since 5am this morning, you didnt even give her a local anesthetic for the wound before pulling the packing and havent even offered her any kind of painkillers since, you told her shed be getting some then didnt authroize them!?" he mumbled something then tells he ti give me one of the painkillers from last night...turns out its the reguar painkiller that doesnt make me sleepy so yeah she put that in through the iv too.
it was about 10 mins before it kicked in but once it did pain level dropped sooooo quickly, once the iv was done i was packed up and sent out.
been given orders to drink ALOT to keep the mouth flushed and moist, eat what i can (it hurts to chew), change the bandaid and put antibiotic on it twice to 3 times a day depending on blood, keep taking the pain killers and antibiotics and return to either the ER or patient care center on wednesday for a check up on the wound, check the swelling and make sure everythings going well.
if the swelling increases, i start running a fever ect though i have to go back in to the er imediatly. this infection is strong fast and hard hitting, some of the swelling in my jaw has gone down but now theres a little swelling in the throat.
so yeah...promised an update. there it is.
as a side note:
the culture is primarily checking for staph and MRSA
and if you ever have a pimple that pops and suddently gets kinda sore, do NOT just brush it off as "its just a spot" please get it checked!
