If I seem even crankier and less responsive than usual it's because my cousin is having a really rough go on chemo. He has a fever that they don't know why he has, and has been in ICU on a respirator and sedation for several days

My Dearest Sis... There is nothing on this earth worse than what you're going through right now. I'd much rather be the one who's sick than being the one standing on the sidelines and unable to do anything to help. Believe me when I say that you and yours and your cousin and his wife will be in my heart and thoughts until this is resolved.
With all my love and whatever support I can offer... Jessie
Don't apologize for seeming even crankier or being more the bitch than usual, you've all the rights to. This thing your cousin's going through, no one should have to go through that, no matter the dicease. Chemo is an awful thing to happen to anyone, it's painful for the person and it's painful for the others close to the person. There's nothing worse than feeling you can't do something for someone you love. I'll keep all of you in my thoughts, and I hope the situation improves.
And if there's anything I can do for you, dearest, you know I'm always around. <3
I'm so sorry to hear that, Lash. Chemo is hell. Feel free to bitch at your flist all you like; we don't mind.
The fact that there are many other people going through the same thing just doesn't really help much.
No, it never does. Just like the fact that other people may be worse off than you are never helps, either. (I had an aunt who would always offer a litany of worse-off people whenever one had a problem. I think she meant to cheer us, but it didn't work.)
