Background:
At a young age, Marisa left home and her dad's shop because it was boring. Thus began the Marisa Chronicles.
http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Marisa What is canon in Touhou?
Personality:
Welcome to the Marisa. No, really. Meeting Marisa, if you haven't done it, is an entirely new experience all together. She's a real class act and capable of bamboozling even the hardiest of people. So, just what is she like? At first glance, it's fairly obvious that Marisa is ridiculously curious. On top of that, she has no boundaries so she is constantly stuffing her nose into the business of others. It's how she has always operated in Gensokyo and she's very, very well known for this attitude and more often than not, disliked for it. Her bluntness and ability to rub others the wrong way definitely does not go over well with many residents.
Another thing odd about Marisa is her appalling lack of concern for other people that don't include herself. This applies in many different ways. Whether it's their opinion or whether they're about to be killed (though killing isn't allowed in Spell Card battles so that might be an explanation as to why), she nonchalantly brushes it off. Shifting blame on others for her own faults is something she is fully capable of.
Despite all this, Marisa isn't all that bad of a person. While she lacks any super close friends that many girls her age would have, she can be fun to be around when she isn't shooting at you or stealing your stuff. Speaking of stealing, Marisa does fancy herself as something of a thief. In effect, she's rather terrible at it, bluntly walking in to announce her presence and taking what she wants. More often than not, she pisses off Alice by barging in and annoys Patchouli by flying into her library and never returning books she borrows. She claims they can take their stuff back after she dies since they're immortal or nearly there.
On top of all that, Marisa is very much a pack rat. She takes things and keeps them, maybe hoping to find a use for them one day. Often times, she doesn't know the value of what she has and there's pretty much a growing lump of metal fusing together in her shop because of all the magic. Her shop sells nearly everything inside it including Marisa's services in magic. There are two things Marisa will never relinquish from her possession. One is a mini-hakkero (elemental furnace) and her broom. Both of these have stuck with Marisa for a long time and her hakkero is actually her most important item. She regularly takes care of it and even had it repaired and upgraded by the person who gave it to her, Rinnosuke (whom she refers to by nickname).
Being a witch takes intelligence and Marisa does a good job of unintentionally hiding it but there are things she's capable of that many people don't see. One of the biggest ones is the amount of work and research she puts into her magic. You see, most characters in Touhou have a specific talent or ability but Marisa is just a normal human. Through hard work and learning, she learned how to manipulate magic to do the things she needs, which is mostly firing lasers. She has also taken the time to record the spell cards of other characters, what they do, and how she rates them on a scale of useless to “I want to copy it” to disgusting.
Abilities:
As said earlier, unlike many characters in Touhou, Marisa does not have any outstanding abilities. However, by drawing magic from her special items or from whatever is lingering in the air, she can cast spells. It's thought that she uses magic mushrooms to cast spells but that can be misleading. Alice, another magician who lives in the Forest of Magic, has taken little to no interest in these mushrooms at all. Considering Marisa's amazing amount of power, if she was fueled by these mushrooms, it would peak the interests of all the other magicians in Gensokyo. However, her mini-hakkero is an amazingly powerful item which she draws plenty of magic from. As a furnace, it can be used normally but it also can output enough heat to burn down a mountain.
But in terms of magic, Marisa shoots lasers. And stars. And anything that explodes. If it's not bright and showy, she tends to shy away from using it, even though she can. Marisa can also fly, with or without her broom though she probably prefers having the broom to reinforce her witch image. Outside of that, there isn't much else. Marisa is very average in terms of physical power so whatever an average 16 year old can do is what she's capable of.
Sample Entry:
Just because you've taken away my dress and hat doesn't mean you've defeated me! I'm still having a hard time justifying the color pink for a witch. But where there's an incident, the greatest witch in Gensokyo will be the one to bring everything back to normal...
...starting with that house right over there! If you can hear me, I'm coming over now!
Oh yeah, let me know if you've got anything interesting inside. I've got a lot of work ahead me so I don't have time to search every nook and corner!
